Glad to see Snatch, which is maybe my favorite film ever. But list fails without Grosse Pointe Blank.

No Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels which is just as good if not better than Snatch,.

Lock Stock is also great, though I prefer Snatch. I thought The Gentlemen was really good, too.

Quick Change.

2022-03-07 5:56:10 PM
You can tell a millennial or younger wrote it because it lists "Clue" and not the movie it remade, the far superior "Murder By Death".

I would also add Brook's "High Anxiety" and Allen's "Take the Money and Run". Both are excellent films that have almost the rewatchability of "Murder by Death" or "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang".

/"Yes, dear, we're going to have a lovely murderpoo."
//"smuggl[ed in] a truckload of rich, white Americans into Mexico to pick melons." is how we describe upper-class kids who go "back to nature" or off the grid in our family.

Not a bad list, with the bizarre exception of #1.

Are these ranked backwards?

2022-03-07 6:30:16 PM

Normal_View: It's obscure, but I love Running Scared, a 1986 cop-buddy movie with Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal. It's utterly formulaic, with almost no surprises, but that doesn't really matter, because it's more of a vehicle for the buddy theme that the film is really about. Lots of entertaining chatter. I've often described it as 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Cops'.

I don't think it's obscure at all. It was on cable constantly in the 90's.

2022-03-07 6:31:18 PM
must've been done backwards because while Turner and Hooch isn't terrible how the hell they think it is number 1 makes zero fucen sense

Almost none of those movies had any heart-stealing qualities. They were machines.

*****
For your consideration:

The Hot Rock
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
Gambit
$
The Wrong Box
Kind Hearts and Coronets
Whisky Galore
The Lavender Hill Mob
The Ladykillers (1955)
The Trouble w/ Harry /The 39 Steps/The Lady Vanishes/To Catch a Thief
The Thin Man
Topkapi
Happy, Texas
The Late Show

****

I disagree about a lot of the movies in the article, but I doubt that the writer ever actually saw the dreadfully dull Clue. It hurt my brain it was so dull.

turner and hooch? its almost as if the algorithm that created this list was trying to get a rise out of people. what should we call such a happenstance?

It's got a lot of snappy dialogue. Billy Crystal and and Gregory Hines have a lot of good chemistry together. But it's pro-police brutality theme did not age well.

Yes, sir, you are correct.  Murder by Death should be at the top of that, and every other, list.
