It's funny how the turntables. I remember when Cisco was selling the backbone of the great firewall to China, now the US internet is made of Chinese parts (that may or may not be spying on everyone).

Too damned bad, my Huwei was my favorite $125 prepaid phone. I mean, once the DoD issued their warning I realized why it was performing like a much more expensive phone, China was subsidizing it heavily because of the malware. And I would be offered military loads from time to time so I swapped a Samsung in and damn I hated Samsung's bloatware and customized settings. Fark Huwei, fark them for breaking my heart.

To be fair they're still Cisco, they just have different logos and more Chinese backdoors.

Don't build hi-tech stuff in the PRC, people! Make them produce Dollar General trash and have the good stuff be made in Taiwan or Japan or Singapore or Thailand or SK or pretty much any other decent country in Asia.

sensitive yet dangerous: have the good stuff be made in Taiwan

Not sure I agree with your long term strategy there, Lou.

Waiting in the wings are the likes of Cisco, Juniper, and Arista, all of which stand to profit rather handsomely from the FCC's re-imbursements.

And now you know why it got expensive(r). No doubt those companies helped them identify every speck of Chinese-made equipment down to the individual screws and dust covers, and then suggested the most expensive replacements from their catalog. When somebody else is paying, you deserve the very best.

My father worked for 35 years in telecom, the company was Western Electric, then AT&T, then Lucent.
Lucent was so poorly managed the entire firm collapsed and the Chinese simply used the IP without paying for it.  Not one politician I am aware of said anything.
We lost 10,000 good paying jobs here in my area, most union factory labor.  The Lucent husk is now an Amazon warehouse.
Who knew moving good paying American jobs would simultaneously threaten national security both in communications and the environment?
Oh, right.  Everyone who worked at the Lucent plant.

That is because China took that Cisco gear and copied it to jump start their own products (complete with spyware extras).

The private telcos, which are mostly entirely unregulated, have been receiving free tax payer money for decades.   All this largess has produced a telcom system that is the envy of the free world.   Just kidding, it sucks.   If you want to know how badly your internetz suck, as if you didn't know, have a look:  https://www.theverge.com/22418074/broadband-gap-america-map-county-microsoft-data

Well, they can't have any more interest rate cuts or tax cuts right now, so, obviously.

Telcos? What are these telcos? Even my "landline" phone goes over OOMA on the Internet now.
