I've been very lucky to be able to get hold of a supply of cheap, made-in-China, KN-95 masks. The problem is that my glasses tend to fog up due to leakage around the top of the nose. I've found that about four inches of surgical tape over the nose makes all the difference in the world. And I feel safer by putting more tape along the bottom and at the middle of both sides to ensure that any air gaps are gone.

Hhmm, no mention of effectiveness of wearing a pancake on your head.

Mask slipping down off my nose at work is a problem, but pulling it back up at the moment it slips off isn't always an option, I've slowly evolved my own workplace mask perfection:

One blue medical mask, to the top edge of which I add 2 small pieces of two-sided fabric tape (your mother or grandmother can tell you what that is.)  1/2 a piece of tape inside the top edge of the mask is enough to keep the mask in place on my nose (removing it from my nose can take a little bit of pulling and wiggling).   Over the blue mask, I wear a face/neck gaiter.  The 2nd piece of tape on the outside of the blue mask holds on to the neck gaiter, which also has an adjustable elastic thingie that holds pressure against the mask and, in turn, against my nose.   So the whole assembly, once together, AIN'T GOING ANYWHERE.   The gaiter also helps hold the blue mask closely to my face, so no virus is getting in.  Why, yes, I can breathe just fine all day long.

Just a tip on getting KN-95s: check smaller hardware stores, like the Red Ball chain. For example, my local Red Ball carries KN-95s, box of 35 for $19.95.

Oh, well, nobody could have anticipated that.

I'm not anti-anything, but gradually convincing me that it's a good idea to wear pantyhose on my head in public is some seriously good, 10/10, older-brother level trolling/punking. A long form masterpiece taking a good couple years to accomplish.

I got a huge package of K95s from China, which seem designed for smaller heads than mine. My chin is wide so they fit weird.

This is old news. I started doing this near the start of the pandemic when I couldn't get my hands on decent masks.

Also... WTF is up with the guy wearing fake glasses over the whole thing? He seems to be upset at having to wear a mask, but then decides to wear ugly, fake eyeglasses as an affectation?

We didn't go into our local grocery for almost a year after they started to offer curbside pickup. This Spring, with the first flush of vaccination optimism, I went in. Fully masked. One of the regular workers who knows me by name hailed me within 30 seconds. Apparently even my eyebrows and ears are distinctive.

I don't wear a mask, and most people I interact with in this town haven't either, for about a year and a half now. Seems to work pretty well. Did put on a niqab for a flight last year, once, good conversation starter.

I found KF94 in XL for my gigantic head. So far so good. The KN95s I got are really small.

I use a bandana on the outside.
N95/KN95 on the face, and then a cowboy bandit style bandana tied over it.

Mostly

1: for fashion, i wear a cowboy at on sunny days and it looks better that way
2: it helps press the mask a bit tighter to my face across the top to prevent any air leaks that blow straight up into my eyes.

Got a whole pile of them so i can color match with my shirts

KN95s and KF94s for routine use. I have a fat head so most ear-loop masks are a problem without an extension strap.

3M 8210s for crowds and buses.

I don't augment my mask, it's an N95.

If it had the bridge wire internal rather than glued on top, I would absolutely cut that one out and replace it with a much stiffer one, because virtually every single problem I have getting a perfect seal occurs at the nose, but the L-188 glues the wire on top. I suppose I could glue a better one on?

Mmm, yeah, and let me guess, your town's paper's weekly obituary list ran to one column five years ago, and it's now a page, but 80% of the deaths very conspicuously don't name the cause of death? And everyone politely ignores all the people they know who used to be healthy and fit before they got "the flu" but now can't walk up a flight of stairs without stopping to gasp for breath?

Look, just because there's a suspicious skyrocketing cases of stroke, organ failure, and cardiac arrest doesn't mean anything is happening. They died from the symptoms of covid, not from covid. See the difference?

We had a slightly worse flu season. Slightly worse - as in an extra symptom or two (aches, or loss of taste). The only person I know of (and this is still secondhand) who actually died of the sweet and sour sniffles was fairly old and obese, and Flu Classic was a risk factor. If you're wearing a mask, it's not for your health and safety or anyone else's, it's because you get off on it.

I'm guessing you have never smelled a fart as well, because the underwear should keep it contained, right?

I should post pics of local crowds. Maybe 10% of people masking up in stores. And often you have to count the employees to get that high. WalMart today I counted eight customers with masks. The parking lot was about half full, with entire families stretching their legs after being cooped up for two days.

For our us made kn-95's we put a strip of stick on foam over the nose and put rubber beads on the ear loops to tighten them for the kids. For surgical masks, I bought a pair of the mask braces that tighten them down. My Korean style mask gets foam at the nose and the 3m aura is perfect just as is.

Because most of the people it kills aren't in your social circle.

Shakin_Haitian: Look, just because there's a suspicious skyrocketing cases of stroke, organ failure, and cardiac arrest doesn't mean anything is happening. They died from the symptoms of covid, not from covid. See the difference?

And note that "cardiac arrest" is a cop-out that shouldn't really be on a death certificate.  Something caused it and that something is what belongs on the death certificate.

KerplunkSploosh: We had a slightly worse flu season. Slightly worse - as in an extra symptom or two (aches, or loss of taste). Republican "thinking" detected.  900k deaths attributed to Covid, probably another 400k where it doesn't make it to the death certificate.  It's behind only "heart disease" and "cancer" as a cause of death--but both of those leaders are actually a group of related conditions.  And note the excess mortality numbers end up missing the people that were already near death and had their death hastened by Covid.

Last week a friend of ours took her mother to the hospital--the waiting room was full of people who had already been seen but they didn't have a bed for them.  And her mother turned out to be one of the "with Covid" cases--existing health issues that no longer were under control because she caught it.

That's not "slightly worse" flu!

KerplunkSploosh: I'm guessing you have never smelled a fart as well, because the underwear should keep it contained, right?

And just to pile it on, let's consider the fart and underwear.  It's actually been studied--while the underwear does nothing about the smell it **does** act like a mask, stopping infectious material pretty well.  (The case of interest was whether farting in the OR posed a risk to the patient.  Conclusion:  Not with underwear on.)

I love it when people think that a gas made up of a few dozen atoms at best is comparable to a virus made up of millions and millions of atoms. I also love asking them how masks can possibly get wet since water is only three atoms big.
