Sadly, no one in the left or right held that as a priority, or even as an unrealistic ideal to strive for

And like all lockdown activists they are relying on others. They don't have a hospital of their own but have had people hospitized. I'd imagine they aren't totally living off the land either and are having things trucked in. Lockdown fans are the most selfish people around they don't give a shiat about all the "essential" people that don't have that luxury. It would be nice to get an up to date article to see how their plan turned out.

No, we don't care about your FluTrucksKlan, you're not going to make us care about it.

People who support lockdowns appreciate the essential people who make it possible, it's the "open everything up" people who then cry that things are backed up because a whole mess of people are now sick and essential jobs aren't getting done that don't give a damn about others.

So, you know, you.

The sad thing here was that our lockdowns created a 420% increase in foot traffic on the trails.  Very few were local and most were on day trips from a couple of hundred miles away.  Unfortunately most of our retail and hospitality was shut down so there was no benefit from the extra tourism.

If its a complete lockdown, you're not locking out "those people."  You're locking out all people who don't live.   there.  Its an easy distinction, and has nothing to do with anything else.

Watching the news this morning, they're saying that it's -31 there this morning, less than 100 trucks (I understand that there are more on the way, before anyone in support of this gets upset at this number) and that they've had to ask a bunch of RVs to move that parked on the cenotaph.

farking classy group.

Gated club?  More like a ghetto with barbwire where the 'savages' are forced to wear armbands with yellow tepees.  That's how reservations were set up.

It's not just the Makah.  Before I saw this post, I was over at Worldometer looking at recent CODID-19 stats.  Washington state as a whole has some of the lowest per capita numbers for both infections and deaths in the US.  Oregon is similar.

It's a fishing community with sovereign rights to the sea. They're doing just fine.

Even so, commerce involving the production and shipping of essentials has not been the driver of the pandemic. People who couldn't be inconvenienced by having to sacrifice going to bars, restaurants, or parties for a month or two drive the pandemic(oh but you can't just give people money to not lose their businesses and apartments during a pandemic emergency, that's socializmmm!).

We knew early on that church services were super spreader events and yet somehow, it was still the "Christian" thing to do to attend church than save lives. I suppose you'll give us some "well akshually" explanations as to why attending church was "essential" and worth establishing a deadly plague here.

Yeah it's a reservation with a whopping 1000 people on it and no, they didnt keep Covid away. In the days after this article was published, they reported a bunch of new Covid cases, 8 from 7/23 to 8/3 alone.
https://www.q13fox.com/news/makah-tribe-rolls-back-to-phase-2-amid-covid-19-outbreak
Nothing in the news since. And that was before Omicron.

You had to dig up an article about a group of 1000 people with 51% unemployment, living in a remote region mostly surrounded by water, pre-omicron variant, to prove everyone else wrong.

Total lockdowns work sometimes, this pandemic isn't one of them.

The Makah reservation is 4.5 hours from Seattle, if you take a ferry, which also involves waiting for the ferry. Without a ferry ride, it is over 5 hours. It is probably the most remote, undeveloped part of Western WA. It would be an easier commute from Spokane to Seattle than it would be from the Makah reservation.
