I just spent the morning installing Apple Music (comes with free trial for a few months), installing the SongShift app, and transferring all my albums and playlists to Apple Music. It was very easy -- and free.

Then, I went into the Spotify desktop app and clicked to downgrade my account to free. It took about five or six clicks of them pushing me to stay, but I made it through. I'm no longer giving them money.

My written reason: "By continuing to have Joe Rogan's misinformation-spreading podcast, Spotify shows that it values profits over human lives."

Joni Mitchell just removed her music from Spotify last night. Interesting side note, both her and Young had polio when they were children.

The musicians that I know, aren't removing their music from Spotify. Probably because they're not rich, and need what little revenue it generates. Not all musicians can afford to lose a revenue source. Rich musicians need to step up and say something for those that can't.

Isn't Spotify a music only platform? Or were they just trying to cash in by adding the microphone manlet?

They added a podcast library probably 5+ years ago. They have a few exclusives and have paid to produce others, Rogan happens to be one of the exclusives.

I wish Parcast would get with it and leave, but they went Spotify exclusive back in August and I haven't listened to any of theirs since.

I wonder if more artists will follow? Coincidentally I have been reading Dave Grohl's autobiography and in the chapter I read yesterday he talked about the Foo's playing Neil's Bridge School Benefit. He talked about how many different bands play the benefit because they are big fans of Neil, and during the week of the benefit all the artist come over to Neil's house one day for dinner and just hang out basically as friends. He said when he showed up at the house David Crosby and Brian Wilson were just hanging out. With that many connections in the music business and that kind of loyalty you would expect a bunch of other's to follow him.

Scenario One:

1. Liberals (artists and customers) leave in droves.

2: Derpers (artists and customers) double-down throwing money and content at Spotify just to trigger the libs.

3. Spotify becomes a Right-wing echo chamber.

4. Spotify execs, decry "politicization" while they cry into piles of money.

Since all farkers are "internet people" we forget that the average normie has no idea who Jordan Peterson is. For normies, Paltrow is a given, every mom knows who she is. For Rogan, less famous but definitely well known.

Peterson is way down here on this scale. Outside of the internet he is basically just another body walking down the street staring at his phone. A nobody.

Well, the Foos showed up in an HIV denialist documentary back in the early to mid 2000s. Not sure if they fully understood what was going on there. Folks change, and even though I'm not a huge fan, I hope someone of their stature will follow suit.

I think a big part of the issue at this point would be that a good number of artists have sold the rights to their back catalogs for lump sums. Ain't no way someone like Sony Music is going to let a protest get in the way of profits.

What the heck have you ever done? Young has left a mark on music.....other than a skid mark, what you gonna leave?

What music young people listen to might surprise. Watch some reaction videos where some young folk are discovering the classics of rock. Nice to see some embracing the stuff with some soul.

This is an interesting take.

If Taylor Swift told Spotify to go fark themselves and remove her music from the platform, that might get them to pay attention. Are The Beatles on Spotify? Maybe if Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr told them to shove it, that would work too. No shade intended to Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, or Peter Frampton, they're all great artists, but it would take someone of a higher profile than them to get Spotify to blink, much less reconsider hosting Joe Rogan's disinformation-palooza.

[YouTube video: Why Old Music is Killing New Music]

First off, "young people" listen to older music sometimes, yes. Myself, with extremely ecctrentic music tastes, only listens to older music by and large. But not rock or pop with few exceptions.

Young people don't BUY music. I personally only buy used records or cash or tapes, so my money exhanged only goes to the seller not the label and artist. Free Spotify and YouTube are all a person needs and folks my age know that, my generation invented "stealing" music.

This is something boomers truly do not understand and I can't figure it out. Music is free now.

I find this so funny an artist that is all about freedom of speech is just fine with censorship whenever it suits him.

In a interview Neill Young says he doesn't believe in censorship. But then it goes on to say that this is different.

No it's not. That is pretty much the basis of freedom of speech people are going to say stuff that you don't like but it is their right to say it same thing with you.

And before people come out of the woodwork saying why should I defend Joe Rogan. Im not defending his right for freedom of speech just like I'm defending Neil Young's or anybody else.
