Kind of like eradicating certain invasive species on-land (or at least lessening their impact), the best way to lay down small, undergrowth-removing fires is a loooot of manpower.

Buuuut that's socialism, so...

The 2022 battle we need

They used one of those on the creek fire in 2020. Impressive as hell.  The ground crew had an actual flame thrower for support.
The back fire jumped the line due to a fire tornado and almost did more damage than good.
I was impressed by the video of the flame thrower, but the tornado was way more impressive

Sigh.

That's a fire whirl.

Also; came in here to say, "Montana did it!" (The Smokejumpers used one napalm bomb to take out a square mile of standing dead). That was back in the '90s, and we caught hell for it from hippies. Not me being insulting, genuine farkin' hippies.

How did California get aw... Oh, the hippies houses were in the way, gotcha.

Backfires have long been a firefighting tool and controlled burns in the winter are being recognized as a good tool also.
