You can't regulate technology. But I do see this deepfake thing being a problem when they perfect it in a couple years.

I suspect this is partly about the CCP being afraid of Chinese people using this tech to put words in party members' mouths, like using it to get the administration in Xinjiang to "admit" to Uighur genocide.

fark china.  Flood the network with deep fakes of everything.  Deep fake Xi doing all the piss porn in russia.  Whatever it takes.  Deep fake the world.

I don't see it, but I guess I could just be failing to grasp the severity of the potential problems.

It's relatively easy to verify whether something was actually said by somebody, video or not. And the technology for deepfake will get better, but it will never advance to the point where it is impossible to detect from a technical standpoint.

We will always have the ability to determine what is a deepfake and what is not, and the people who are going to believe deepfakes are real don't require deepfaking to convince. You could simply tell these people, "so-and-so said such-and-such," and they would believe it anyway.
