We're going to need a bigger boat.......to handle the influx of tourist this will bring.

On a different, but related note, it is remarkably refreshing to be able to click on a video on a news site and not have to sit through a 30-60 second advertisement first.

Did the great white get caught on the fishline or did it try and eat the fish caught on the line  I think I saw a white rope like thing leading to its mouth.

It was just a line with some bait on it from what I could gather from the video commentary. Just a rope, and bait. No hook.

It is one of those "get in a cage underwater with sharks" boats. It was specifically a bait line to attract sharks. I'd hope they don't have anything on there that would actually snag or hook a shark, and that the shark was just chasing the bait to the surface. Maybe this doesn't happen often, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened more often than not. It's in the tour operator's interest to learn how to get it to happen.*

* This is not always ethical. Maybe I dreamed it, but I seem to remember a story about boats that take people out and then throw food up in the air so eagles will swoop close. There was an argument that they were basically training the eagles, and that the eagles were losing their ability to hunt for themselves.

He blew it in the interview by saying it wasn't a normal occurrence. As a tour guide he should have said, "Yeah, just about every time we go they're biting like that."

What an extraordinary situation. A piece of bait on a line near the boat caused a shark to come near the boat.

Has anyone informed National Geographic of this unusual turn of affairs?
