Ah Fox News, where Trump lost Arizona but also won, where Antifa was responsible for 1/6 but also the FBI was, where vaccines are encouraged but also will kill you. They don't care about anything other than telling idiots what they want to hear, and if that means permanantly contradicting themselves then that's fine with them. Principles don't sell ad space, appeasing idiots sells ad space, and that's the business they're in.

How Fox News Changed American Media and Political Dynamic

--Bruce Bartlett*

The creation of Fox News in 1996 was an event of deep, yet unappreciated, political and historical importance. For the first time, there was a news source available virtually everywhere in the United States, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a conservative tilt. Finally, conservatives did not have to seek out bits of news favorable to their point of view in liberal publications or in small magazines and newsletters. Like someone dying of thirst in the desert, conservatives drank heavily from the Fox waters. Soon, it became the dominant - and in many cases, virtually the only - major news source for millions of Americans. This has had profound political implications that are only starting to be appreciated. Indeed, it can almost be called self-brainwashing - many conservatives now refuse to even listen to any news or opinion not vetted through Fox, and to believe whatever appears on it as the gospel truth.

*I think Bartlett's one of the most dishonest pieces of shiat on the pundit scene, but he might have a point here...

It's not contradictory at all.  The first is an ad for why white people made this country great then.  The second is a quote about how everyone else is destroying it now.  These are simple facts, as any Fox News viewer will tell you.

I agree with your take on it, but I will point out that back then plenty of white people hated most of the other white people who were immigrating. Exactly who they hated depended on who they were and where their descendents were from, but when it's all white people they find lots of other tribal points of hatred just fine.

Borders and territory are some of the foundations of civilization and what enabled us to leave the hunting and gathering behind.  Anyone that would say something like this is so secure in their little bubble because they know that millions would die to protect them, and that their location is out of the price range to be challenged demographically.
In other words, you're a liar.

Yes, that's one of the other foundations. As soon as people started living in one place territory became a thing and people had areas that contained their crops, children etc and needed to protect them.
Also, nice passive-aggressive funny votes again, Fark.

Australia has a shiat-ton of immigrants and I have found that the tribalism goes past nationality down to very local levels. I used to work with a Geordie immigrant from Sunderland who was the friendliest guy you could meet unless you were a Geordie from Newcastle. I also once worked in a multicultural organisation and at the annual dinner the two tables of Sri Lankans were deliberately placed on opposite sides of the room to avoid fights.

Brian Kilmeade is such an idiot -- and I mean that in the 1950s clinical sense -- that he thinks his ancestors were the kind of Americans anybody in America wanted, and that today's immigrants are somehow fundamentally different.

You could explain to him that there's literally no difference; that for hundreds of years, European immigrants from the "wrong" countries were treated as invaders by the pasty-whites who murdered the actual indigenous Americans, but he would be confused by your words and your sentiment and would probably explain why he's not a butt-hurt racist with no sense of history or perspective.

You need territory before you can develop it agriculturally, and once you do it's pretty useful to let people know where it is (mostly for the threat of "keep out"). This was literally a matter of survival, since losing your farmland meant starvation.

Around here anything that isn't more heavily sourced and cited than a Supreme Court appellate brief is ipso facto "a lie".

Ever since the Oaf Keepers indictment was handed down, if you say "huh, its snowing, must be cold out" there are a dozen alternative opinions here that will challenge you on the etymology of "cold", the temperature at which water freezes, and whether you REALLY saw "snow" or are just repeating a talking point like the Nazi you are.
