(USA Today)   I'm gonna make a quick run to Lowe's to pick up some drywall, a golden retriever, and a new belt sander. Wait, go back one   (usatoday.com) divider line

Belt sanders are serious business.

Well, that dog you rescued had to come from somewhere.

Sometimes accidents happen during home improvement projects that will cause you to need more supplies for that project and a new pet. Nice that you now can get both in one place when these unfortunate events happen

The Lowes near me here in New Hampshire allows pets (as many non-food stores do), so while you don't get one there, chances of seeing one there are actually pretty good.

We have Lowe's and Home Depot stories on the same day. Somebody post something interesting about Menard's for the tri-fecta!

so hoteling retail space in your existing retail space a thing now? There is a likely overlap in the Venn diagram of course.

Will this allow Petco to reduce their existing retail footprint, or will it allow them to help avoid expanding their current locations for a potentially(?) temporary retail bump due to increased pet ownership related to the pandemic?

Do many Lowe's locations have much unused space? Will my groomer now be as hard to locate as a red vest? Will they provide soundproofed dog house kits for the damn neighbor's mutt?

/Good dog, bad neighbor.

I just bought a pair of Irish Setters for work, so I'm getting a kick out of this.

/so does this mean that the stand-alone "Unleashed" small-store concept from Petco has gone away in towns other than my own?

When I worked for Lowe's, the store I worked for didn't have the space for that lying around, however given the configuration layout, I imagine it could be done by ripping out a large chunk of Inside Lawn and Garden.

Why rip out a large part of a department?  Supply issues.  As I was told repeatedly while working there, it's better to have full shelves than empty space (even if you royally piss off the merchandising team) as empty space makes customers uneasy.

Bringing in another company to fill their space with their stuff is a pretty neat move, however given Lowe's track record with stuff like this I full well expect it to start strong for the first 1-2 years, circle the drain for 3 and then finally collapse when it's expedient for the pet supply company to bail.

Also, I like animals.  I disliked having to mop up piss and shiat because people just let their animals go to the bathroom in my department and didn't have the common courtesy to even offer to clean up.  Naturally, the bathrooms weren't much better but that was just people doing it.
