Well, it sucks that the virus is doing this.  But it's good that we're starting to understand the underlying mechanisms.

A /. thread in which a user with a 4-digit user ID actually posted? What millennium is it?

I posted on this subject not too long ago, but for a different topic. Somewhere on the Internet is a good article about an outbreak of the flu in an expedition in Antarctica. The people had been isolated for many months when one of the team got the flu. There was speculation that it was dormant in the person all along, and popped up while his immune system was weak. Don't have the link.

But remember, almost ever single thing that Covid-19 can do, other viruses also do (it may be worse, but it is nothing new). See, scientist discover the cold virus can "hit and hide":

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/04/040426055429.htm

That's from 2004.

Other viruses cause blood clots. Other viruses can lower your IQ.

Again, COVID-19 may be better at it, but it isn't the first virus to ever do these things.

There's a renewed focus on virology and now we're looking at the common cold. It's a class of viruses they never paid much attention to because there wasn't money in it. But now it looks like the common cold might have been responsible for all sorts of things that seemed idiopathic over the years. Or thing remain idiopathic and corona viruses are the rented redhead they beat.

So we have the Salish-Shide being created: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/26/us/california-redwoods-native-american-conservation.html

Volcano's blowing up across the world.

Police departments turning into private security services (https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/private-security/overview .... Hello Lone Star)

The "Metaverse".....

So.. is this how the "latent dna" turns people back into Orcs and Elves and stuff?

So... how long before we have this?

So which dystopian future universe are we living in? Will I need D20s, or will D6s do?

I understand linking to twitter occasionally since the article is paywalled, but it's a farking phys.org article behind the post.

When Mr. Bright and I moved to the Seattle area about twenty years ago, we figured out where the corners of the achology would be the first time we went wandering around downtown.

Yes. We're nerds.
We admit it.

As a survivor of depression I'm very interested in the potential links between viruses and mental health disorders.

Did they burn blood samples to see who is the new host?

I just logged in to see what my user number was and the first thing I see in the preferences is that I can update my AIM screenname. Or was since apparently that's been discontinued for 4+ years.

Is this going to be the new hipster thing?  Yeah, I got COVID, but it's a vintage version.  It's really old, doesn't have a Greek letter, you'd never heard of it.

The good news: only about 20-30% of people infected with Covid appear to be susceptible.

Only?

That's odd, the PSP didn't come out until 2005
