Wow, a childhood flashback of an event long forgotten. My mum raised my brother and me to keep our pyjamas under our pillows. We're Australian but she's quite the Anglophile and she saw it as the proper way to do things. So yeah, I can't speak for the Poms directly but my mother certainly imagined them to be the sorts of chaps who'd keep their pj's under their pillow.

I know many of them are making money from this sort of thing, so that would be nice, and good for them, but I don't think I'd like being married to one of these Tik Tok women.
To have to participate in their "skits" and all...not for me

Throw them on the top of the bed after I fix it.

Been there - done that (a British expression).
I now hang my "night clothes" on a hook on the bedroom door - which is kinda gross with consideration of my oft-mentioned flatulence issues. This is Mrs. Henry's protocol (& she's Canuckistani born).

I must be British.

Where else should I be putting them? This must be the subject of a serious Reddit thread somewhere.

These people need to stop drinking gin all day.

No.  You get a heated bathroom floor, then you put them on the heated bathroom floor.   Instant warm pajamas.

I'm not British and sleep in the nude but under the pillow seems like a reasonable place to put pjs. No weirder than anywhere else.

If pajamas are worn more than one night before being laundered, this seems problematical since they don't get to air-out between wearings.

British people certainly feel that they way they do things is the natural proper way to do everything. "Sensible," they call it.

Same reason you're really not supposed to make your bed everyday either. Keeps the sheets moist and can breed germs, mites and retain hair and dander. Better to let it air out.

I often sleep with a hand under the pillow. Also I would think pj's would make the pillow weirdly lumpy in spots.
