This is the kinda thing that makes my nazi hitting fist get all twitchy.

It's almost as these people truly believe they live in an insulated world.

Such a crying shame they're going to find out they differently.

2022-01-26 7:05:37 PM
Yes, well, this is what happens when you let pigf*ck-ignorant hicks make education decisions.

2022-01-26 7:10:05 PM
I'd put money on none of them having ever read it.

When your ideology gets all excited about free speech when defending nazis, but then insist on censoring speach that is critical of nazis... What you did....is told on yourself.

2022-01-26 7:18:11 PM
pure sadness. Spiegelman's In the Shadow of No Towers is a precious 9/11-related miracle

2022-01-26 7:23:07 PM
Sounds like they don't like Nazis being portrayed in a bad light. Farking inbreeders.

2022-01-26 7:35:04 PM
Well, I bet I can name 10 people who have never read Maus.

2022-01-26 7:41:40 PM
I bet sales of that graphic novel skyrocket in that community

Idiots

Both volumes of Maus are devastating. These idiots really took the wrong lesson from it if they are concerned about swearing and nudist.
Hell, I own the books, and only read them once.

Sounds like the JDF and the Holocaust Museum are going to do some biatch slapping.

It was a drawing of a photograph, but what a punch in the gut if you have any sense of empathy.

The ouisher should seize this opportunity and use it for a campaign. Especially given the parallel to Nazi book bans. Hell, they should distribute copies for free to members of that community and get people talking about it. Let them (I mean, the reasonable people) read it and realize that it's not only educationally relevant, it's also an excellent book.

Me too.  But more importantly both my sons read it.

This kind of gutting libraries at a regional level using the law is part of the middle of a civil war. A civil war requires at leat one side to destroy the culture of their opposition, and replace it with a revolutionary pedagogy. This is the middle of a civil war, not a potential precursor.

Does nothing move these people? They're borderline inhuman in their obstinance.  Either that, or they are affected privately by such things and then they overcompensate publicly by handwaving it away as triviality.  I'm at a loss for any coherent words.  Like, how do you even begin to work with people who've got that mentality. Can they be reached? Damage-controlled?  I certainly hope enough of the kids under their authority have the wherewithal to get some outside exposure to reality via the internet at least.  Good god, the middle of the country at least as it portrays itself to the rest of the world is like a black hole where traits like empathy and critical thinking go to die.

This isn't a civil war. It's Wiemar Germany all over again. The opposition party is busy making sure the donor class is happy while we steadily let the fascists take over.

Calling Maus a graphic novel is an insult to Maus and a compliment to graphic novels.  It absolutely transcends the genre; I can't think of any other achievement in art that's comparable in that way.

Anybody who writes a cover blurb for a graphic novel that says "It's the next Maus!" ought to be kneed in the crotch repeatedly.

2022-01-26 10:12:40 PM
So basically the complaint boils down to "Jewish people writing about the holocaust and its effects didn't depict themselves as happy afterwards."

At least they apparently don't realize just how dumb they are.

I didn't need to read Maus to know what really happened. I read actual history and had seen some of the sites in person as a kid.
But it is a great little book and moves one to tears in ways you don't generally see in history class.
And if the objection is to nude art, they should ban Michelangelo - his stuff is at least human. Mice are naked in nature.

The only way it's an insult is if you see graphic novels as a categorically inferior genre of art.

Same. I read it in a weekend and spent much of that time with a thousand yard stare. It's an incredible book.

I do need to go read Meta Maus, too.
