Of course it is, but that only makes me wish it was a 14 second drive.

Sports are fun, but life has taught me that folks who work in children's hospitals or hospice centers are angels among us, and I'll never regret donating money to either cause.  The day I'm so jaded that I believe otherwise is a day I will regret indeed.

The Grim Reaper Quote from Reid to Mahomes would be the perfect catalyst to change that.  Swapping out banging a cowbell over the Chop would be a real easy way to capitalize on a moment in a way that may make sense to the die hard choppers.

Because I expect two things to come out of Sunday:  1.)  Mahomes enters the field to Don't Fear The Reaper (Or at least it's getting played at some point pre game.), and 2.) Mahomes is probably getting stuck with The Grim Reaper as his nickname.  If Chiefs marketing and PR don't see this as a real easy way to get out of that icky chop debate - they need to go back to PR 101.

100%. A few of my friends have bought plastic cowbells from Party City and verified that they're ok to take to the game. I think it's perfect.

I keep going on about how there's a path they can take which turns every bit of this team name and all that goes with it into something positive.

Some of this is in that article, but so far they've
* Banned Native American headdresses and blatant face paint in the stadium
* Asked media not to broadcast anyone in a headdress or face paint filmed in the parking lot
* They actually quit playing the chop music over the stadium speakers for a couple seasons (yay!), then for some reason started playing it again (booo)
* Doing some awareness and education programs about Native Americans at games and outside of the stadium
* Actually meeting with and talking to area tribal leaders

I have one thing I'd like to see happen, that can can tamper down at least some of the chant usage.  I know some people have their own issues with it, but... if someone can write some music to play after a score that the old "We're gonna beat the hell outta you" chant scans too...

/At least it's been a few years before I've heard any whining about "...and the home of the CHIEFS!" being unpatriotic.

The Chop is actually a relatively recent arrival to KC. It appeared about 15-20 years ago when the local grocery store chain Price Chopper sponsored the Chiefs and blanketed the area's advertising with Chiefs and Chopper tie-ins. That started fans doing the Chop. The Chop started with the Braves in Atlanta and Florida State almost 40 years ago.

Right now I don't think they will let you into the stadium if you show up wearing native American garb. Some fans do get by with face paint.

Keep in mind I am an "adopted" Chiefs fan, because my wife and son are from a HUGE clan of die hard fans, and well, my natal team is now owned by Danny Snyder.  So I am still learning.   But as a Dc "fan" I am aware at how quickly the ground has moved on some of these native American issues.   20-odd years ago when I had occasion to be on Reservation land in AZ, I was struck by how much gear the locals were wearing from my hometown team, and our unofficial mascot   Chief Zee, had his entire wardrobe donated by various native American groups, and the team used to let him travel with them.  Not sure he's even get into the stadium these days:
