(NFL)   The Saints resisted "rebuilding" when Drew Brees retired and stayed in "win now" mode. They didn't. Now they have no head coach, no clear answer at QB....and they enter next season $73 million over the cap, $30 million more than the next worst team   (nfl.com) divider line
More: Fail, New Orleans Saints, New Orleans, salary cap, essential part of New Orleans, trade partner, restructured deals, Sean Payton's decision, new coach

Back to another couple decades of the Aint's.

The world is finally healing. ❤

if Brady retires, the entire NFC Souf will be a dumpster fire

I thought the Steelers were bad at planning for the decline of Roethlisberger.

How the hell do you have a 40 year old QB and not have a plan for when he retires/can no longer play?

That is just basic business planning.

But my grocery store charges me 10¢ per paper bag now.  I can't afford to get my family properly dressed up for games anymore.

Whoopi Goldberg did a pretty good job with the Knicks. Why not give her a call?

obscure?

They just gave Taysom Hill a big contract last offseason. And signed Jameis Winston last summer. They had a plan. It just wasn't a good one

If horrible late 90s comedies are obscure on Fark, I don't recognize this place anymore.

They should have held on to Bridgewater.  He was 5-0 filling in for Brees a couple years ago and he would have signed for way less, freeing up cap space to retain talent and protect him in the pocket, which is why he was unsuccessful at Carolina and "meh" in Denver.

Good thing NFL contracts aren't guaranteed.

Going into the season with Hill and Winston was a declaration that they do not want to make the playoffs for a while.  Odd that Payton stuck around and actually tried to win games, rather than retire with Brees and let them start stocking up draft picks.

The Taysom Hill contract has 4 voidable years and isn't real. It was a cap dodge

Who thought that going 73 million over a cap of roughly $200 million would be a good idea even IF you win the Superbowl?

The next worst team being the Packers. Ha ha, suck it, Green Bay!

The best deal ever signed, and it still wasn't fully guaranteed.

Though he did pretty good with it.

That was just one of the "100,000,000 contracts" that reporters liked to pretend were real. He certainly wasn't paid all of that.

Don't the Saints have plenty of tradable assets?  Including Sean Payton?

Sean Payton's irrational lust for Taysom Hill (I.e. Tebow 2.0) was one of the many terrible decisions the Saints let him get away with. They got in this hole as an organization. They deserve it.

Sean Payton has been on drugs ever since the '09 super bowl.  He was a talented coach and there were some big wins and brilliant moments... but you aren't gonna take a team to the super bowl with a party boy head coach on drugs.

His wife left him and took the kids after she found out about his 20 year old mistress and all the strippers and molly.  Last time I saw him out, the latest gf was a skanky dog wearing a tacky $10k outfit.

I always said the saints sb win was just like the bears.  One and done, legendary but never gonna happen again.  The bro visor was always an indicator.
