Bob The Nob: Just open the cargo doors.  Duh.

You know what?  If the materials could stand it, putting them in an airlock and exposing their inner volume to vacuum might just get that smell out.  All those volatile compounds should boil off pretty quickly under those circumstances, leaving nothing left to get to your nose after you bring them back into a pressurized environment.

Apparently the stench from the Apollo capsules was pretty overwhelming when they got opened.  Imagine 3 guys living in a Geo Metro for two weeks while crapping in bags.

One problem not a lot of books/etc. go into - space suits stink.  And there's no cleaning it out of them 100% - they're a small close environment your body's locked into for long periods of time, and they smell like it.  Sweat, farts, you name it.  One person I've talked to that had to wear one repeatedly compared it to wearing military body armor for long period on deployment but magnified quite a bit

/he was a trainee astronaut but never got picked
//and he was deployed in first Iraq so he had the comparison
///now combine the hard to clean/constant use factor with the comparative low water availability for cleanliness...
