Why not put the cartoon mascots on healthy foods?  Those sugar cereals are like eating candy for breakfast.

Why not just exercise personal responsibility and not buy the shiat with mascots for your kids? FFS, do we need the government to hand hold with EVERYTNING we do? Raised three kids, and none have demanded anything because of a cartoon character on the box.

Yeah, those bright primary color schemes really scream 'not at all aimed at children'. Good jorb!

I mean, personal responsibility is a thing, sure. I don't buy any of the sugar cereals myself.

But don't we have a responsibility to society as well as to ourselves? If childhood obesity is a problem, shouldn't we look into why and how to fix it?

What about corporate responsibility?  Who decided to market candy and cookies as "breakfast foods" if you pour milk over them?

I have to say that one of the unexpected upsides of the pandemic is keeping the kiddo the hell away from the grocery store.

He hasn't been inside one since he was an infant.

I've actually forgotten that these damn things are marketed at him

Ad free subscription services has been the best thing about the cord cutting movement for my family, we basically only see ads when watching live sports, and even there more targeted offerings like AHL TV lack ads.

I think the only ads I ever really encounter are the ones in my cat-restaurant tablet game, muted and ignored. strange that you see tons of gambling and alcohol ones, though. very rarely, there are ones too intriguing/hilarious to ignore, e.g. that retro-70s sportscasting thing Terry Crews did with his son, fake mustaches and all.

we've been watching Call Me Kat, and in the latest one, Mayim Bialik had a taped VHS of $whatever_romcom_film, that she prefers because it has the commercials in it. lol!

it definitely is pretty wacky/almost-nostalgic to see ads in TV programs, to be sure.

oh also - that show has had like half the cast of Blossom show up in recent episodes, which is a weird fond nostalgia all its own.

/whoa!

Well, yeah.

I mean, I'm pretty dependent on public infrastructure like well-maintained roads and reliable electricity and water.  Shared benefits people can depend on is how modern society functions.

I don't expect you to pave your own farking roads, but people should at least take some personal farking responsibility, instead of expecting the government to hold their hands for everything.

Nice try with your false equivalency bullshiat, but it's apples and left handed scissors at this point.

It's hardly a false equivalency.  People don't take responsibility and don't do what's in the best interests for themselves and others.

The government makes roads because people don't maintain them on their own.  The government says "don't market unhealthy sugar cereals to children" because on their own people sell whatever they want however they want.  They don't do the right thing.

There's "should" and then there's reality.
swear about it all you want, won't change anything.
