Canadian news media is certainly hoping something will happen, because screw the safety and security of the nation, we've got eyeballs to harvest for the ratings, clicks to gather for those ad pennies. Besides, no one important will get hurt, probably.

Is this going to be as successful as the truckers that shut down DC?

Conflict sells. Colbert's interview of Joy Reid last night brought up this very point. The various news providers tend to treat politics like a sportsball game....even when that treatment happens to be harmful to our democracy.

"When we talk about this protest that's happening, I'm not sure how much of it is connected to supply chains anymore," said British Columbia NDP MP Taylor Bachrach on CTV News Channel's Power Play on Tuesday. "It's grown into something else entirely."

It's been hard to find total numbers.  Here's what the organizers said yesterday:

Pedersen says there are already 150,000 supporters involved in the campaign, but it's unlikely that all of them will make the whole trip.
It is possible there could be 30,000 trucks on Parliament Hill for the protest, she says.
The convoy is expected to stop in Calgary on Sunday night before leaving for Regina on Monday morning.

I guess it's possible, but this is today.

The convoy, which started in British Columbia, has grown as it rolls east. There were about 1,200 trucks and other vehicles by the time it reached Regina on Monday night, police in the Saskatchewan capital said.

Most of the vehicles in the convoy Tuesday were not semis. There were pickup trucks and the occasional sport utility vehicle. Many were adorned with slogans, signs or flags calling for an end to vaccine mandates, such as the one for truckers.

Canada has 36,000,000 vehicle registrations.  .003% of Canada is in the convoy.  Is it possible that the media is once again spending way too much time hyping Real Americans Canadians?  Does the CBC send reporters from Toronto out to diners in Moosejaw to get the REAL opinions of Canadians?

They just hate it that most people are following health guidelines and getting vaccinated and living their lives in relative normality compared to them.

They just want to make things worse for us, bring us down to their level of misery. If they aren't sick enough to clog up the hospitals, they'll jam up the highways, block off the streets downtown, and raid the Olive Garden.

Part of the problem is the polling. The PPC (libertarian right, no seats in Parliament, but gaining popularity) is draining CPC (Big Tent catch-all right wing party) support big time. So the CPC is falling all over themselves to court the crazy. They will lose the moderates chasing the louder fringe, but are desperate to stem the bleeding.

85-90% of Canaidan are vaccinated.

85-90% of truckers are vaccinated.

The trucking trade group is strongly against this. So why don't these guys just go out behind their rig and start and start slamming their nuts in the hitch lock.

Also,

"Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole has repeatedly dodged questions about his stance on the convoy."

Much leadership, such bravery. Huge morals. GFY.

I still remember when a coworker was very concerned that we needed to plan for all of traffic into/out of DC being shut down by the truckers who were going to protest Obama using their own convoy.

Eventually the truckers said they weren't able to make it to DC in time to shut it down due to unexpected traffic.

That is such a weird movie.  It's so jagged.  It's attempts to be light-hearted and comical come off as menacing.  From what I understand, Peckinpah had spent years as a functioning alcoholic, but by the time he got to Convoy he had gotten into coke and his usage only increased during production.

If the comments on any given CBC story are any indication, its for the best if they don't go around asking for those opinions. They generally read as Two Minutes of Hate for, well, just about any subject.

It's disingenuous of the media, or anyone, to liken this protest to the U.S.A.'s Jan 6th capitol riot. And foolish of people to accept and swallow such a narrative.

"Oh look, Canadians in an industry are traveling to the nation's capital to protest a specific government policy. It must be as serious as a politician-incited insurrection!"

The artist by all reports is serious. Although she released a 'shop with Prime Minister Trudeau surfing just in front of the shark on the right. (riffing on his recent Tofino trip during which he did not go surfing)
Which inspired me to add Left Shark in one of the tennis match 'shops last night.
