"Cool" story, bro.

I worked with an engineer who did the Antarctica support get once.
She said people tend to pair up while they're on site.
The term she used was "Ice wives"

What I see is improper fraternizing. The two of them and any others who facilitated it should be fired.

I thought this was going to be a necrophilia story.

And sometimes when your options are limited, you stop being a superficial jackass long enough to get to know someone.

Especially if you're a mortician.

So McGrath went to McMurdo and met someone named Heinz?

She should have canned him on the name alone.

/is this thing on?

I did somebody who worked at Mercado station. And she would go there for 6 months. And during her time down there she decided she didn't want to date me anymore. But she didn't say she was seeing somebody else. But we did meet up when she returned and they found out she was interested in somebody who worked there, who eventually left her for someone else there. And she only started working there previously because she was married and her husband was there and she joined him. They divorced down there because he found somebody else.

As McMurdo is roughly 75% men, the pairings will have to be rather open-minded about things.

I think the scare quotes got misplaced.

Ice "wives" is what they call each other.

I can imagine a Florida woman and a Texas man finding love in a very cold place.

The weather rants alone sets a strong foundation for empathy! But good luck to them. I heavily support anyone that wants love finding it.

From what I know from a friend who worked in Antarctica, they constantly are looking for support staff. It's not like a penguin's going to knock on the door and ask for work.... Get a nice nest egg, too, since there aren't a lot of stores to spend your paycheck at, and Amazon/FedUps doesn't deliver there.
