51. Yep, that's old enough to start the slide to senility/conservatism.

It's also ancient for a music star.

I'm actually willing to give him a pass on it.

"We the people, in all we do / reserve the right to scream FARK YOU!"

OK, sure, the country itself was founded in a revolution against a mad king. There's the hook.

(I'll spare you a few verses of reminders of policy issues and the urge to reject any information sources that don't reinforce your prejudices.)

This is how you reinforce in-group thought.

"You piece of shiat / I don't see color / Black Lives Matter / No Shiat Motherfarker"

There's another hook -- I mean, sure, we could write a 30-page whitepaper about how he's in denial about the the mechanisms by which systemic raEVEN PEOPLE WHO AGREE WITH THIS HAVE STOPPED READING AND STARTED SKIMMING - and that's the point. People have chosen their sides on the culture wars and aren't going to be swayed by argument.

If you want to win a Democratic primary, write a 30-page whitepaper.

If you want to win an election, express it in 280 characters. And end it with "SUCK ON DEEZ NUTS!"

Meanwhile, "If you down with love and wanna make things better / all we gotta do is just come together / weather the storm, and take my hand / and follow my lead to the promised land."

That's how you reinforce groupthink. And subtly reinforce authoritarianism. You know. Come together. Bound by a common cause. Like sheaves of wheat. Now that you've got a leader (because you're down with love and comin' together), "Because we the people, we gotta unite / And follow that good time guiding light / Climb aboard this love boat / And rock that biatch up and down the coast!"

Or little rods of wood. Maybe with an axe or something. United. Following. [THEN GRITTILY NARRATE THE PREAMBLE BECAUSE WHO COULD QUESTION ANYONE WHO SPOKE THE WORSHIP WORDS!]

And of course, bring it right back around - "We the people / Standin' up, and standin' tall / 'Cause it's all for one / And it's one for all! All. ALL. ALL." Not in a communitarian three-musketeers sense of the world, but we must all be bound together in collective action for the One who at least pretends for Us All.

And by covering all bases, every listener can find at least one line in the track with which they can agree, so "Us All" is - unless you're listening carefully - going to be everybody who listens to the song. (For me it was the BLM endorsement. For others, mostly those in the target audience, that'll be the line they shrug and let go but they'll be pumping their fists to the lines about Fauci or whatever.) Point is if you've written the lyrics appropriately, you've written them so that we're all us, at least to some extent, and not them! (Like, who'd want to be THEM anyways?)

And that's how effective propaganda works.

By speaking a few small truths on behalf of a big liar, an effective propagandist manages to convey ideas even more false than the unadorned big lies themselves.

/the best counterpropaganda is satire so subtle that its target audience doesn't recognize it as satire.

One can make songs about bad presidents, though I don't think Biden qualifies.

It's when you make songs attacking doctors for doing their jobs that really seals the deal as fascist bullshiat.

He pretends to have grown up poor; actually grew up rich.

No one remembers "Yodelin' in the Valley". Back when Kid Rock was just rap. I'm sure his current fans don't request much from that first album.
