There are three or four Total Wine stores within a ten minute drive of my house.

Each had about 7000 different wines and about 2000 different beers.

Smells like too much hops and regret.

John's Marketplace yawns and says "Come back when you have a decent selection, Kid."

Once PA relaxed their beer distributor regulations, the place down the street opened up their entire inventory to buying by the bottle, the 4/6 pack, or case (in addition to their already solid keg selection).

Their selection was always amazing, but under the prior rules they couldn't sell singles. So I wasn't exactly going to shell out $200 for a case of Rochefort 10.

So now it's awesome. I used to have to cross the border to DE and go to Total Wine, but they put their selection to shame. The only downsides of the new format is that 1) I spend way too much time trying to decide what to get, and 2) I now end up spending more money on beer.

Growing up in the 70s we had a pop shop not too far away. There were twenty different flavors and you could mix and match a case of good glass bottled soda. Favorite was a lime rickey, followed by cream soda, pina colada, fruit punch, lemon, orange, grape, cola, root beer, and ginger ale. No i dont have 'beetus...

Yeah, I live in podunk-ville, and have multiple places within 15 minutes or so that have a selection like that, or mostly likely better. Everything from local craft/regional/national craft beers, to imports, to cheap garage beer. All available as early as 6 am, 7 days a week.
Of course, I live in WI. So YMMV...

Oh, and those are just the freaking grocery stores, so I can buy the requisite snack too, all in one trip

I guess in Japan that's an impressive selection.

I have a place down the road with 2,000,000 kinds of beer and 10 course meals to go.
