Can they actually hit anything? Have they ever aimed for something smaller than an entire farking sea?

"...and these six fish in particular!!!"

(side whisper overheard in the crowd: he knows we are firing to see where it lands to work on our aiming, right?)

"prove to the international community that they are gearing up the military capabilities, enough to become a threat."

That is literally the last thing you want NK.

They have a sun-synchronous reconnaissance satellite.  While it's not a physical object, that's a pretty difficult target to hit.

The Superbowl and Chinese New Year happened at the same time that year, so they thought that was a great time to launch the FarkAllYall-4.

Right, but if Best Korea starts actually targeting these missiles somewhere, The US, South Korea, Japan, China, and probably Australia are going to wind up throwing various ordinance at each other. That's east Asia turned into a wasteland and half a billion people dead. When the Straight of Malacca is filled with the hulls of blown-up ships and China and Taiwan's industrial bases are ruined, the next world war will be fought with rocks and sticks.

Let the little man shoot all he wants into the water. The only things scared of him right now are fish in the South China Sea.

I'd say that China isn't so much scared as they are getting tired of DPRK's little monkeyshines.

The whole peninsula is an entry point into China. So they'd like it to remain communist as a sealed entrance. But heaven forbid they accidentally hit a target in Japan. A possible international response could be a losing war resulting in a western occupation/reunification. That puts the U.S. and others right at China's side entrance.

You know that balloon that depicts TFG wearing a shiatty diaper?  Someone ought to make a giant one, like 100 feet tall, but with Li'l Kim.  Fly it from just on the south side of the border.

They could tow the USS Pueblo out and use it for target practice.
Or they could put pontoons on a fleet of antique Volvos and nuke them as an act of defiance against Nordic culture and hard working self reliant Best Korea.
I think we should let them strike Mar a Lago.  It's a good target and act of friendship between our two great people's.

Yes, they have the capability to land a nuclear warhead on the continental US. Obviously the Trumpers will be along shortly and comment on "little rocket man", "lil kim"  and "attacking the sea" but that's all they know. Now, sure you can argue about the reliability of the ICBM stack to reach the US and the efficacy of the RV but no elected politician is ever going to call DPRK on that. Regardless of ICBM's, DPRK has more than enough conventional stuff to really hurt ROK, something the US are happy to discount as US casualties would be light and Brown People don't count.

DPRK was running parallel development plans across multiple technologies  and that shows in the very compressed timeline.

Lastly, DPRK are never ever going to first strike anyone, ever. Only Trumpers disagree. What DPRK has done is take forced regime change off the table, that's all it was about.

Nope. They have neither the strength, resources, nor logistics to do so. As others have noted, what North Korea has built is an invasion deterrent, not an offensive machine.

It spun in.

There were no survivors.

North Korea knows that they are a minor player. They only want to test the United States anti-missile technologies. They're hoping we shoot one of theirs down so they can evaluate what we are capable of.

It would be embarrassing if we missed, but it would kind of be funny to test our anti-missile systems against them.  Shooting down a few rockets might remind them where they are on the Civ Tech Tree.

Even though it would be dangerous, we could launch a Tomahawk cruise missile to land near to just outside their coastal water to test its capabilities and their detection and response capacity.

Would be crazy to see those if they had nuclear explosives inside those reentry vehicles. Hopefully we never need to see that.

The pinwheel process to individually fling them off is mesmerizing, and extremely rare to see even with a bunch of duds.
