Milo farking SUCKS. I bought a jar at the recommendation of an Australian. The directions result in a drink about 1/8th as thick as chocolate milk, and no matter how much more powder you add it never gets good

I haven't had a glass of milk in years, but I would give that a shot. Problem is, I would only drink one glass and it would go bad before it was finished. With it being whole milk, is it really thick?

The problem with calling it Instant Breakfast was it took about five minutes of stirring to mix it completely, even if you used a whisk.

When I was a kid, I would take some white bread and butter it up, then sprinkle the chocolate powdery goodness over the top so it formed a nice layer and popped it under the broiler for a couple of minutes until it got bubbly.  fark yeah, Chocolate Toast!

Naw, I was a poor white kid in Kansas City.  Perhaps in another life?  I think in my brain at the time, the idea was an extension of the cinnamon toast many of us grew up with.  I do recall it being really good.  The strawberry version, not so much.

Ok, that is hilarious.  I had no idea Hagelslag was a thing.  I see you can order some on Amazon.  I may have to try some for nostalgia's sake.  I am learning stuff on Fark today!

My chocolate milk take is that none of the store-bought/pre-made versions compare to the simple "stir chocolate syrup into a glass of milk" version, like you'd make at home or get at a diner.

All of the pre-made ones add too much extra sugar and/or other shiat that changes the thickness and flavor.

I sprinkled chocolate malted milk powder on my vanilla ice cream back in the day. Good stuff.

I agree that pre-made is usually crap since they add too much carrigeenan. That Promise Land brand stuff is an example of too much additives. The only pre-made I ever found good was from a local creamery not too far from Detroit that I was able to get at a higher quality grocer. It was damn good and worth dealing with the $2 returnable glass bottles.

The secret is to use physics. Only pout a little milk at first to make a paste/slurry. The shear forces during stirring will break up all the clumps. Then you add the rest of the milk so that the slurry can then dissolve.

Yeah, there is a small local dairy farm that sells chocolate milk and it's probably the best pre-made stuff I've had.  It still doesn't match the preferred style since they obviously do something to it to keep the milk and chocolate emulsified, but it's pretty good.

probably the same thing they do to keep the milk fat emulsified

/milk is an emulsion
