I've tried doing the naturalist thing around Dallas, but there's nothing that cool because the available spaces have all been terraformed in the past century. There's things they pretend are nature spaces, but they moved the farking river. Fake lakes, everything is new growth.

I watched the hell out of that movie when it was on UHF (DC 20's Creature Feature, usually) when I was wee.

I enjoyed it a lot. Not because it was good. It's not, but it is bonkers.

That was really cool, and now along with seeing the slime mold, I now have an earworm in the form of that Peter Gabriel song, and you probably do too.

I recently watched this BBC documentary on slime molds. Their growth can solve mazes, build the most efficient networks for transporting food, etc.

A bunch of brainless organisms can sometimes work together to solve problems. If only Congress could do the same.

While I don't recall that particular game, I remember when that was cutting edge.
The funny thing is  the fundamentals haven't changed but boy the graphics sure have

I'm assuming it's a screenshot from NetHack, which is a very complicated version of hack/rogue.. with "rogue" being the very first "roguelike" game.  It was a dungeon crawl completely in ascii-text played on early computer systems long before today's videogames existed.

And I just discovered this that I didn't know, why rogue and nethack have slime molds as a food item
