Fauci was complicit in the AIDS cover-up of the 80s. This is a separate issue from his expertise. I'd sooner listen to an unscrupulous expert than a "power-to-da-peoples" anti-vaxx moron like Kennedy.

But in the end it comes down to what each of us believes is best for us: I believe the vaccines reduce the risk and potency of COVID illness. I think they save lives. Doubtless there are people the vaccines don't help too. There is no one absolute truth.

Yes, that seems to be the problem.

I am not particularly impressed with Fauci because of Covid, but going through the SPIN rabbit-hole of AZT approval, there was enormous pressure to approve anything that worked. That those studies were compromised is not surprising in retrospect, but at the time it looked good, or at least better than other drugs.

That said, Fauci hasn't made bad decisions by completely ignoring scientific studies, he's made bad decisions by not waiting long enough for more studies to come in. RFK, Jr. is deliberately misrepresenting reality to reach his conclusions, and so is SPIN.

"he's made bad decisions by not waiting long enough for more studies to come in."

Neither he, nor the country, had the luxury of waiting. The virus was spreading rapidly and causing a mounting death count. It was necessary to make the best decisions possible based on the information available at the time. As more studies were conducted since the start of the pandemic, the knowledge of how best to prevent and treat the virus was developed.

Dr. Fauci made changes as the knowledge base grew, but the right wing and rags like "Spin" are comparing him to HItler as a result. He has saved many lives and doesn't deserve this abuse.

SPIN (at least their old article) argues that the early decision caused more harm, which is on its face ridiculous.

Robert F Kennedy Jr: There is blanket censorship of this issue. The first week we sold 110,000 copies, with no publicity - not a single review from any newspaper in the country.

Interesting. So some corporation or PAC or something bought 100,000 copies and put them in the warehouse.

Because there are very few people seeking out books that just came out with zero publicity. Especially from somebody who isn't churning out books where their readers are anxiously waiting for a new release.

It's a shame everyone and everything must be fed into the big, dumb binary of the culture war.  Everyone has to be Hero or Villain, My Side or Their Side.  We should probably have some difficult, sane conversations about research in China and how the NIH, Fauci and some of his colleagues, reacted to the initial outbreak.  But it's impossible to do without people screaming at you for being on Team Rand Paul and Carlson.

The guy shouldn't be vilified, he's mostly done a good job in a bad situation, but he's also been involved in some things that we should be asking more legitimate questions about.

2022-01-25 12:21:46 AM
Yes, [Fauci] was suppressing treatments like he's doing now. He's suppressing repurposed medications that are virtually all patent expired, like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, which cost pennies per dose and they're much more effective than vaccines.

I bailed at this:

If you get injured like Eric Clapton by a vaccine, where he literally had his hands paralyzed, you report that on social media, Facebook will evict you, deplatfrom you. There's thousands and thousands of doctors who reported injuries to their patients.

FFS Clapton has been battling peripheral neuropathy for years. Here is an article from 2016 about it.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/06/13/eric-clapton-reveals-nerve-damage-that-makes-playing-guitar-hard-work/

And yeah, yeah, yeah and whine, whine, whine about no one wants to review your book. They probably read it and noped out of promoting his bullshiat and lies.

It is worth noting that in the face of a rapidly spreading lethal disease one may not have the luxury of waiting for more studies before taking action.

Like his father, the man is a sleaze merchant.  He seizes on or attempts to create the sensation of the moment and this would appear to be more of the same. In short the man makes money by being an asshole.  He's good atbit but that does not lend itself to credibility.  As to his attack on Dr. Fauci, I look at those who do the same and would not choose to be in that number.

So today, instead of The Hill talking mad shiat about the dems, we have mods digging up a shiat site to talk some shiat about Fauci.

Hey Drew, any reason you got your mods running full on right wing misinformation mode recently?

Every everything is bad when you look back, that is why they say hindsight is 20/20. To sit now biatching at a person fighting a pandemic because they made mistakes they have learned from 40 farking years ago is the height of farking privilege.

TFA is incredible in the number of fallacies and false statements per sentence. This could easily be from The Onion or similar publication.

"Fauci is America's top doctor. (Actually, he's not, and never claimed to be, but somehow it's his fault we call him that.)"

"I'm being censored. If you'd like to learn more, here's my book that sold 100,000 copies all about how censored I am. And if may, I'll use this interview to plug my appearance on a highly rated cable news network, where I had the chance to tell millions of viewers how censored I am."

"I'm not allowed to write letters to the NY Times editors." Really? I mean, really? I can't state with certainly that's a lie, but I'm pretty sure that's a lie. Does the Times have a court order barring RFK Jr from sending them a letter? That's what he's claiming. The Times choosing not to print the inane ramblings of a plague rat isn't censorship and isn't the same as not being allowed to write a letter.

...
"The Chinese, who did early treatment, had a death rate of about three per million population. Our death rate, where we had Tony Fauci suppressing early treatment and saying the only solution is a vaccine, had a death rate of about 2,200 per million.
Look at the African countries, the Asian countries, where the use of hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin are widespread. Those countries, many of them, have death rates under 20 people per million."
