I've really enjoyed having the frequent updates on the commissioning process, I'll miss those during the months-long wait for images... But damn will that payoff be worth the wait.

They're gonna do some weird stuff where they take pictures but only using individual mirror segments to get the alignment right.

Which sounds weird but these people seem to know what they're doing

/they certainly had long enough to work it out :)

At -300 degrees F on the cold side, your nips wouldn't stand a chance for more than a few seconds before they shattered.

Decades. Segmented-mirror telescopes have been in operation since the 1990s.

Currently primary mirror at -211C and instrument package at -202C.  Another ~100, or so, days to get to the operational temp. of -233C.

And, if that doesn't chafe the nipples sufficiently, there's this:

"...Even more dramatic cooling goes on around the camera and spectrograph in the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI). MIRI sees farther into the infrared than the other instruments, which means it has to be kept spectacularly cold. Webb boasts a two-stage cryocooler that works like the world's most effective refrigerator, pumping a warmth-absorbing gas through the instrument. The first stage brings MIRI's temperature down to 18 kelvin, and the second stage brings the MIRI detectors to 7 kelvin-that's just 7 degrees above absolute zero, the theoretical temperature at which all motion freezes, even the movement of atoms..."

Doesn't sound weird. Each mirror is individual, and therefore, they each need to be calibrated independently, so that when they are one unit, they will work as such. But they still move independently, so it seems absolutely normal to adjust each one.

Actually the telescope will never retire all the risk. There are multiple parts that can still fail even after they declare it operational.

/The vast majority of the risk has been retired though.

I recently started collecting original posters for sleazy movies released anywhere in the world during the month I was born. I may have to make an exception to the whole birth-month thing and see if I can find one of these.

Written by Dee Flowered, and starring Coquette de Jour, Pandora Disaster, and Ming Vase Dynasty!
... I kinda want to watch it.

Ming Vase Dynasty as "Grand Muff Tit".
Tittiana Sprinkles as Guard Captain.

And from the IMDB page on the director:
Directed, shot and edited an educational video on teen pregnancy for Dekalb County School System (Atlanta, Georgia) at the age of 13. Co-founded local improvisational comedy project "ADTV" (1990-1992) with his brother David and friend Matt Comegys, for which he earned extra credit in junior high classes. Played in Atlanta punk bands The Fetal Pigs (1991-1992), Evergreen (1992-1994), and Thumper (1994-1995). Founded B-Movie zine "Gonzoriffic" while working as a video store manager, and brought it to the Internet in 1998. Met actress Monica Puller in 1999 and co-founded Gonzoriffic Films with her in 2001.

This sounds amazing.

I intended it for 'pic.' Technically if it was $10 billion dollar tits the total cost would be $20 billion, since the cost of JWST is $10 billion. Still, I laughed.
