The only "Arse Holes" are the people who refused to pay attention to the person who reported the remote code execution vulnerability MANY months ago.

The game has player co-op and PvP.

While technically correct, this is a new exploit and likely exists all of the titles, including Elden Ring.

This is a known issue. Hackers used it to make players look like hackers by "giving" them a hacked item in their inventory so the player gets banned from the game. Been happening for years.

No, the guy that raised this issue is the only one that can exploit it.  FROM never responded to him, so he's getting the community involved to get a response.  Since they took the servers done, it worked.  From the description, it sounds like they used Log4j and haven't patched.

No, this allows them to execute code outside of the game, resulting in a massive security flaw.

And, at least for DS3, it's been patched in the most recent Blue Sentinel.

Yeah... Offline is how I prefer dark souls anyway. PVE is enough to worry about without having some min-max dickhole interrupt your progress and make you use a few estuses at best, or restart at worst.

I played it.  I beat Ornstein and Smough, put the controller down and uninstalled it.

It was just too much for me and I wasn't having it after that boss fight.

But the purported exploit cannot affect console gamers

there's a master race joke here somewhere

I think the multi-player in DS is wack and I hope elden ring isn't similar.

well kind of but it's not a joke, just simple reality.

When all you got nothing of any meaningful value, then of course no one bothers to try and exploit you for the nothing you got.
meanwhile that PC might contain a lot of value/access to value.

So yeah, Con-Slow plebs get left alone, in the same way all plebs are ignored by the highwaymen who are looking for anyone that had some value in the pockets in the first place.

The Orn/Smough fight is hated mostly because it's the first fight in the game where certain builds and tactics straight-up don't work, especially the magic-missile / ranged weapons build that was probably making you wonder why anyone said this game was hard to begin with if you'd been using it.  They basically hard-counter anything done at range or dependent on holding a target in a certain orientation, lighter melee builds or even just unequipping your staff to pick up some faster weapons you haven't tried yet without the stats to back them up tends to be what cracks the nut, rather than "getting gud" at your existing build.

That's kind of why people like the game, that the fights are all unique enough that every build has "that one boss" and it's usually an entirely different set of bosses that are hard and easy.  Or, rather, it's emblematic about how each playthrough and each player's experience is dramatically different, which makes it one of the best water-cooler games around.

Like... I rolled with a pyromancer/block build with a fire axe just 'cause fire was cool on my first playthrough and Orn/Smough was one of the easiest fights in the game, because "vent every spell you have in a massive alpha strike the minute you walk into the room" cuts the difficulty of that fight literally in half instead of just making it require fewer repeats to chew down the HP like it does with every other boss.  I was like "what's the deal with people biatching about this fight, I'm not even good, I just wanted to set shiat on fire and picked all the 'set things on fire' powers and weapons".  Didn't get it until a later playthrough.

Also, that was Dark Souls 1, article is about DS3.

// I am not demanding that you like something because I like it, if you don't dig the game that's fine.  I'm just saying that it probably wasn't actually "too much for you".  Dark Souls isn't actually 'hard', as such, you die a lot as part of the process but there's no real penalty for dying and it's kind of designed to have you let go of feeling frustrated when you repeat a fight.

What's great is that I had a friend who got me into Dark Souls 3. That's not quite how it went down for me, but it was like, "Huh, for a first enemy that was more like a boss fight".

"Oh. Actually your first boss fight is about to come up. And basically the whole game is like this where even the simplest mobs will wreck you, so get used to it"

When I saw the Zelda comic I related way too hard.

I can't even tell if this is sarcasm anymore.

Yes, and unlike some other games connecting to an online server is not required for the single player portion of the game.  Which is the way it should be of course, but some developers - looking at you, ubisoft- insist on forcing their paying customers to prove they didn't pirate the game every single time they load it up.
