"...officials said he is believed to be between 16-35 years old "

Way to narrow it down there.  How many high school sophomores would get mistaken for a 35 year old?

I assume being a cargo plane he found his way inside the plane and not in the wheel well.

Sitting here trying to imagine the following:

1. sheer terror at the noise
2. sheer terror at the lack of being secure
3. cold
4. what if you get a leg cramp? how much space is in there?

I mean just think how long your work day lasts, then tack on another 3-6 hours in that space.

Thought it would have been RyanAir or Spirit to try something like this.

You have to get incredibly lucky that the landing gear doesn't smash you and asphyxiate you. It folds into a tight space and some rando stowing away doesn't know the schematic of how everything fits into the wheel well.

TFA says "inside the nose wheel". I'm not quite sure what to make of that. Even given that he had to be treated for hypothermia, you could be right (for all I know about cargo planes).

Long flights add severe hypothermia to acute hypoxia and hypobaria as potentially fatal environmental factors faced by wheel-well stowaways.

That's also assuming you don't get crushed by the hydraulics when the wheel retracts. I'm guessing the wheel well is generally designed with just enough space for the wheel.

The size of the wheel well isn't the biggest problem -- it's the -40 degree temperatures, and the low air pressure/oxygen levels.  That part of the plane isn't heated, and isn't pressurized. At the 40,000 feet cruising altitude, the air pressure gets low enough that what little oxygen is around has a very hard time crossing the membranes in your lungs. Almost everyone who tries to sneak into a plane this way (and there are quite a few desperate people who try) dies of either hypoxia or hypothermia/frostbite.

There's a reason they don't know his age yet, there's a good chance he has severe brain damage from lack of oxygen.

It's hard to determine the age of a person when their dominant characteristic is blue.

So . . . he's fully qualified to run for office in Illinois.

Survived aboard a plane wheel, did he? Well, it needn't be an elaborate wheel, eh?

They should put stickers in the wheel well of a big skull on a fluorescent backdrop to give stowaways a clue what will happen if they don't GTFO right now.
