When I was a kid, way back in the '60s and '70s, I was a very active teenage shooter.  I was on a rifle team and shot in competitions, turkey shoots, etc.  I even rode my bicycle to the range with my rifle strapped across my back (bolt removed), and nobody seemed to care.

What was the big difference between then and now?  Hysteria, back then, had not been whipped into a uncontrollable frenzy with idiotic side-effects like these.  The NRA, then, was all about weapon safety, marksmanship, and education.  That NRA would have been appalled to see what this new (bankrupt) NRA is doing.

Back then, the NRA was actually thinking of the children.  Now, as we can see from what's been happening there recently, its just another grifting engine.

More like Fitty Cent than common sense.

I read a lot of books about brainwashing and cults when I was a kid.  It was kind of an arcane subject then, not a real threat despite the odd Manson or Jim Jones.  Now 25% of our country is signed up as members of a group that has completely lost its mind.

I'm assuming they'll do that for the age of consent.

Soon anyone who can hold a gun will be allowed to have a gun anywhere.

After that, every gun will get to have a gun.

After that, humans will be made illegal and only guns will rule.

farking idiotic. Completely unsurprising news to see coming out of America.

I'm not terribly surprised. This is what conservaderps consider virtue signalling. They want to militarize the populace from teens older. The best way to do that? Allow them to all carry firearms at every, given opportunity.

Me? I can't imagine letting barely post-pubescent, HIGHLY emotional and irrational people carry firearms around their peers could EVER have grave repercussions... Nope. Never. Nuh uh. I can't hear you! LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!

Important: "I even rode my bicycle to the range with my rifle strapped across my back (bolt removed), and nobody seemed to care."

A very big distinction from taking it to school.  I bet you never took it to school.

The early 70s is right when this distortion, this takeover, of the NRA started.  1971-1975, I believe.  They veered from a moral, useful, legitimate sportsman's organization to a political arm of far right wing lunatics. Their board of directors turned over in this period and got taken over by wackos. The reinvention of what the 2nd Amendment meant was a little scheme THEY cooked up.

Now they're beyond that, and are just a grifting, money collecting, money laundering criminal enterprise.

TTTO "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" by Joan Jett And The Blackhearts (originally by Arrows)

I saw him dancing there by frosty machine
Knew he must have been about seventeen
He leaned in close and said
"Baby my name is Fred"
"And I tell can ya who comes along gets shot in the knees, yeah knees"
"And I tell can ya who comes along gets shot in the knees, yeah knees"

Singing, Let's bring guns to school
So put another slug in another baby
Let's bring guns to school
So come and bring your gun but don't shoot me

He wobbled forth and teetered over the bar
"I'm prepared" he said, and dank piss from a jar
He said "Can I grease you up?"
"And dog you like pup?"
Next we're moving on, and shootin' up knees, yeah knees
And we'll be moving on and yiffin it all night long, woo-wee

Singing ...

Yeah, it got me fair and square. I originally had "...starter pistol" but that could have been misinterpreted as one of those things firing blanks. So I picked a different word.

I'd love to read something about this, that names names and traces where the money came from. Got any sources you care to share?

...

Actually, I did take it to school, more than once.  I was in ROTC and we had a rifle team as well.  The big difference between then and this?  We took them straight to the armory, where they were stored until we needed them.  Why?  Because safety, dude.  Safety was what it was all about, and if you didn't follow the rules, you were off the team.  We were trained on, tested on, and respected the rules for the safe handling and transport of our weapons, using NRA-supplied materials.
