I don't understand the JFK thing.  He was pretty much reviled as an open and proud Stalinist by Republicans until about two years ago, and was also famously one of those there Papists.  So why is he now seen as an ultra-fascist fundigelical?

Supposedly he was the first casualty of the "Deep State" so the Q idiots can have a tailor made conspiracy theory.

So the fact that Trump got out of military service with some BS foot condition just doesn't matter? JFK and Bush Sr served in WWII and faced real danger. Trump used Daddies money to get out of service.

And it seems appropriate that Trump is "treading on me" by stepping on snek.

And it's only by sheer luck on many, many occasions that GW wasn't shot in his military career. Jefferson is the only one other than TFG that wasn't shot at that we know of, and the Q-types would hate him if they knew about him & Sally Hemings.

Trump is probably less dangerous with an assault rifle rather than a twitter account.

Trump wasn't even the best golfer to occupy the White House. He's last in every category, yet his supporters insist on forcing these comparisons.

If I meet someone 20 years from now, and they admit to having been a Trump supporter, that meeting is over.

I'm reminded of how Monet, over the course of his career, slowly slid from and impressionistic but still recognizable style to a much more abstract and disconnected style which prioritized color and feeling over rendering the scene.

Well, okay, it's sort of like that, but without the color and feeling. C'mon Jon, it's okay to admit that the well is dry and you're just not into it anymore. You're not fooling anyone.

/ Also, his sense of human proportion seems to be getting progressively worse
/ I do still appreciate the not-that-subtle casting of TFG as a Christ archetype by showing him crushing the head of a serpent

Not really.  Guns of the age were highly inaccurate.  The reason everyone marched around in those close-packed lines was that it was the only way to make the guns simply stupidly inaccurate rather than completely useless.  A couple of those formations could stand a hundred feet from each other and unload and the most probable result was no one even being hit.  Washington, as an officer, would be even farther from the shooting, and thus even less likely to be hit.  You'd have a better time throwing your musket at him and beaning him with it than shooting the damned thing.

Tangentially, I wonder how much of that was the inherent inaccuracy of smooth-bore weapons vs the lack of proper training of the soldiers? People were hunting with similar weapons at the time, and soldiers armed with better weapons a century later still had issues with shooting human targets.

But yeah, the JFK thing is confusing. JFK was reviled by Republicans, because he was a liberal, he was a Catholic, he was an Irishman, they hated his dad and they probably rejoiced when he was assassinated. Now JFK has somehow been adopted into the Trumpian cause.  Real Twilight Zone shiat.

Yep. The proto-MAGA conservatives of his day were not exactly subtle in how they felt about him, and it's very weird that they've decided 60 years later that he was really one of them all along.

Do we know he was never wounded? If Corporal Washington got hit by an Iroquois while he was young it's not like it would have been national news.

Not really.  Hunting weapons generally had some sort of rifling, and had for about two centuries.  By our standards, it was notional at best, but it greatly increased accuracy.  But that rifling also increased the need for cleaning the barrel.  Not a problem when you are firing it maybe five times in a day and then cleaning it that night.  Big problem if you are expected to mow down the King's Own Northumbrian Hussars and four thousand of their closest friends.  That'd make it unusable almost immediately.  Baby-ass-smooth muskets avoided that problem, but at the cost of not being able to hit the broad side of the barn whilst inside the barn.  They were also easier to manufacture, so shiatting them out en masse for your army was cheaper

"JFK was actually a conservative whose legacy was stolen by the lyin' Libs" has been a low key talking point since at least the 1990's. Limbaugh tossed that around on his radio show. It was necessary to square the "America was great before the hippies screwed everything up" worldview.

ArkPanda: If Corporal Washington

Washington was never a corporal.  He was an officer from the get-go.  If you had the money of a plantation behind you, you simply bought your commission as an officer - in fact, officers with actual training or experience before they starting sending men off to die were as rare as hen's teeth.  And a gentleman enlisting as a footslogger was essentially class-treason.

Major, actually; in a state militia.  Colonial America - and the world in general - were relentlessly classist.  Washington was of high enough station he would never have been anything less than a major, even if his sole quality was that he came out of a high-society vagina.  In fact, that was the overriding qualification.  Because Washington could expect to lord it over people below him socially in civilian life, he would lord it over similar people in military life.  Anything less would be uncivilized and savage.  Realize that while Washington would have freaked right the fark out at Obama being President, he would have been equally incensed by Jackson and Lincoln, as the men came from common origins and were thus unsuited for governance by their very birth (I'd agree about Jackson, though not because he wasn't a society dandy, but because he was a bullying asstwat).

Note that the background is a completely devastated landscape.

Apparently the MAGAzombie Ex-Presidents completely failed at protecting the world from Antifa, or else they destroyed the world and are posing proudly in front of their handywork.

Of course, the truth is that the MAGAt gun humpers are unconsciously showing us what kind of world they dream of giving us.

Wasn't JFK in the navy?

Speaking of the US Navy, your president Carter was badass. Not only did he rappel into a nuclear reactor but he was slated to become a nuclear sub captain. He deferred because he needed to take care of his family.

Carter should definitely be here.
