Manchin has already shown he only acts in bad faith and there is no point in negotiating with him after he just lied in December. Just have Manchin craft a bill without any input and see what he comes up with if anything. Manchin less than a week ago said fark democracy.

Jen Psaki should announce to the big three, along with every internet outlet that will carry them that she will be having a press conference on behalf of POTUS. Get maximum coverage. Tell them it's about reviving the BBB plan.

She should walk to the podium, straighten the papers, look into the camera and say "F*ck Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema."

Then she should walk away from the podium.

I'm aware that politics don't work that way, but those two bad-faith traitors need to be publicly embarrassed and shamed on an astronomical scale.

BOTH OF THEM VOTED TO CURTAIL THE FILIBUSTER DURING THE DEBT CEILING VOTE JUST 50 DAYS AGO..

Drive that point home to everyone that they are farking hypocrites who aren't even doing this now to hold out for some crumbs off the big cake.

They voted against the voting rights bill because they're spineless cowards who are afraid of losing their donors' support.

LOL

Yeah, sitting in your office saying, "Come, bring me your offerings and I'll decide then whether you have pleased me" is TOTALLY the action of a man who "wants back in".

They wouldn't be ashamed of that.  Actually, they have no f*cking shame at all.  As long as the money keeps rolling in, that's all that matters.  As long as they keep f*cking over the Democrats, the money will keep rolling in.

She already prolly shouldn't have a job. This would definitely seal it.

all this time and no one talked to him

Dems: "OK Joe, what do you want, except to waste our time and push back any other effective legislation we can accomplish around the filibuster that you ALSO won't help us remove?"

JM: "Well, if we could just make this about bridges..."

Dems: "We did that. We have a new year and a reset on remediation. You and the moron from Arizona are our only problems, so what will it take, up and down, to get your votes?"

JM: "Wharrgarrbl"

Dems: "That's what we thought..."

Like 30 seconds of conversation, no fuss, no muss. Pull every appropriation you can from West Virginia, leave him the scraps from the Koch bros as his only funding for his next election cycle, and support the shiate out of a primary challenger against him, even if it leads to a GQP-nick taking his seat. The end.

2022-01-22 3:49:43 PM
What's not often said is this: the failure to primary or otherwise punish these two dolts just means that more Dems will go the same way. Better to lose the seats to the GOP and send a message to the rest of the caucus than to let them inspire others.

2022-01-22 3:49:45 PM
Why is the federal government still sending money to West Virginia? Delay funds to West Virginia. Make him unpopular in West Virginia. When the media talks about it then mention that there are funds available in the BBB plan, and that Joe Manchin was opposed to it.

2022-01-22 3:50:10 PM
Honestly?  At this point fark them.  They're no good to the party or the country, so cut their asses loose.  Let them know that they're in their final term as a Democratic Senator - that come re-election time, the DCCC is going to put its heft and its money behind someone else and 'primary' them, no matter the cost to long-term party objectives.

It's time for Democrats to learn to have the level of party discipline Republicans have had going back 30 years.  Without it, we might as well shut the goddamned doors on this country.

Highly doubtful. They're as devoted to their truth as any republican despite evidence they may be wrong. They also seem to being into purity tests too. Disagree with them or criticize dems and the insults begin.

Is anybody on Fark actually pro-Manchin or Sinema?  There's a huge difference in saying "They're better than a Republican because it at least means having the majority" and actually thinking they're good Senators that we need more of.

Mentat: So are the Fark Centrist Whisperers still doing the "We need people like Joe Manchin in the Party!" thing or did they finally give up on that?

We don't need people like him. But in the current circumstances, we need him. He and Synema suck, no question and we'd be much better off with a majority that didn't depend on them. But the choice is between having a senate majority with them, or not having the senate majority. And you might say, "what good is the majority if it can't get anything done?" And while that's a fair critique given the BBB and Voting Rights Bill, it ignores judges. Even ignoring Garland, McConnell stonewalled a ton of lower court judicial appointments. This left a ton of vacancies for Trump to take advantage of and will affect policy for generations. Fighting back requires senate control and filling every vacancy. Additionally senate-confirmed executive offices are a thing.

That's not to say there isn't an argument against. Having the majority means that when shiat doesn't happen, "The Democrats" (writ large) are to blame when good stuff doesn't happen, even though it's only two who are responsible. So the choice is as follows a) Give up the majority (and the share of blame that comes with it) by kicking the two assholes away, but retain the ability to fill judgeships and executive offices or b) Retain a weak majority and the ability to control appointments?

I think the policy outcomes on both sides suck, but the latter's suck less.

This is either some delaying tactic or power trip to feed his ego or both, but in no way is a good faith offer. If it was good faith, he'd have said what he wanted in BBB from the beginning (and gotten it).

Why would she say that? The Democratic establishment is A-OK with what he's doing. Any public condemnation would be an act.

They should be doing this anyway, because she's a f*cking criminal.

Like, not only is it a good political strategy, it's also legally the right thing to do. And they're still not doing it.

You can't convince me that the Democratic Party establishment isn't ultimately on Manchin's side.

We have to start caring about the kinds of Dems we elect, not just electing them because of the letter after their names.

Once you get to the general, I still say "vote blue no matter who".  The majority, even if it's a dead end legislatively, is still that important.

It is worth replacing Sinema in the primary, though.  Absolutely.  Arizona can do better.  Manchin is a farking lost cause, but I don't know if WV would send anybody even a tiny bit more reasonable to DC.  There must be another state that would be easier to flip instead of focusing to much on WV.

Can't we just nuke WV from orbit?  Sure, there will be dozens of dollars of damage, and meth production will take a hit for a few months, but other than that, what are we really losing?

Maybe nuking is too much, how about a giant Jewish space laser?
