Yes, because guidelines to help you keep from dying is 'control.'

Seatbelts? Control. FDA rules? Control. Building codes? Control. FAA? Control. Railings on balconies? Control.

In thousands of years of humans being on this planet, we continue to try to keep the proud, willing and stupid from ending their lives, and every generation we see folks more than willing to toss that aside from sheer pig headedness because they wanna.

You wanna see what flouting COVID rules gets you when you're in your 70s? This. This is what it looks like, and damn all of us wearing masks for trying to NOT make you sick. Damn us for taking lead out of your gas. Damn us for driving safely. Damn us all trying to make sure the food you eat won't kill you.

Maybe we should just stop, and let nature take its course. I mean, yeah, it will have a human cost, and a lot of kids are going to die from stupid parents, but in the minds of 'free' isn't that a price they're willing to pay?

I was going to try to say some nice things about the man, but damnation, he died f*cking stupid.

Oh I absolutely remember when seat belts became the law (I think 1984 in IL)... people going on about their literal body freedom.  I was a kid, but yeah I remember a small minority of people.

Come to think of it, I actually had a GF that was anti-seat-belt.  She claimed it would be worse to have on in an accident.

None of this is metaphor.  People are... like this.

To further this argument a bit... a mandatory, no exceptions, law is control.  Otherwise it is just societal pressure and shame.  Which is all that is happening right now, and that is not control.

You have the right to die of COVID.

Meat Loaf is one Great American Example of that.  He was not controlled.

I disagree.

A mandatory no exceptions law is public health policy. It is in no way controlling you other than saying you have to get a shot for your own benefit and the benefit of others.

To equate that to some fascist authoritarian concept of controlling your life and freedom is a deliberate lie

I don't know if I'd put Tom in that bin, he had severe hip issues, to the point where he toured with a cracked hip (shrug).  That kind of pain can drive you mental.  Ask me how I know, mine being from a motorcycle wreck.

I get what you're saying though.

Sure, you're essentially right.  I was just going on about how little "control" is really going on here.

I am all for a vaccine law, though it's never going to happen of course.

But as it stands... no one is being controlled at this moment in America regarding vaccines.  All of it is choice, and ol' Meater there made his fine choice.

He was on Sorbo's side of things when it comes to COVID-19, and we all know Sorbo's a complete numpty.

Meat Loaf died of COVID-19, just like my dad, because he was against vaccinations and giving a damn about protecting other people.

So he was a pro-trumper and it killed him in the end. For having tiny hands trump can sure hold alot of blood.....and he doesn't care one bit.

His last words were apparently "I'm out of my head. Oh, hurry, or I may be dead. They mustn't carry out their evil deeds."

Hard life lesson from growing up in the 1960s and 1970s. Just because the guys wore their hair long and got stoned didn't mean they were cool about improving social norms like bigotry, sexism and racism and/or even legalizing pot. Too many of them carried prejudices they learned from their parents & grandparents.

/So it goes.

A microscopic virus that can kill you if you don't take small mitigation precautions.  That's giving up an incredible degree of control of your life, Meat.  Face it, dingbat, you were controlled to death and it didn't have to be if you just did some simple things.

I have a hard time blaming him when the mind control industry of the Conservative media is so powerful. I mean, obviously personal responsibility and all that. But how many dumb people do we know? They are easily led into the fires of death with this nonsense.

Freedom, Liberty, Patriotism... they have all been warped into this nonsense of sticking it to the Libs. It's utter madness and it has killed more people than most of our wars have.

It's sad. Really. They choose it, it's on them. But we're all sitting here watching it happen and there's almost nothing we can do.

Whatever I guess.

2022-01-22 10:47:12 AM
If we could contain the impact of stupidity to the stupid, the problem would resolve itself and everyone would be happy.

Since we cannot, we either have to control the dangerously stupid or kill them.  We've decided to do neither.

/It's a bold plan Cotton.  Let's see how it works out for us!
