Astonishingly no postponements this weekend.
But they took their toll on the weekly scores last GW as the Dumpster Fire table will show

Usual old blurb on the action is here
On the ref's front, Dean actually put a shift in, moving up to 5th with his 5 carder at Wet Spam & last night's red won't harm his chances one bit. Could he?

Morning all. Quick comments on the midweek games:

- Brighton looked surprisingly good, they seemed to be one reliable goal scorer away from being a pretty decent team

- Watford and Norwich (sorry) are both completely awful, and for long periods were unable to pick out a member of their own team with a pass, and this despite Norwich wearing their hi-viz jackets. I'm glad I watched that game on DVR as I eventually resorted to skipping through the key plays.

- The relegation battle is harder to call than most years, I would not be surprised to see any of the bottom five (yes, even Everton on recent form) go down.

Leftist Uk footy magazine When Saturday Comes finishes each issue with a one pager looking back at a single season. In recent years they've strayed from the Uk to cover leagues that most won't have heard of.

This month? The 1926-27 season of the American Soccer League.

Look at these awesome team names:

Sometimes when the team is struggling, it is best to go back to the basics.

I was going to say Bethlehem Steel is still around, but I see they changed their name to Philadelphia Union II a few years ago.

Why does the one Villa player have no number on his jersey?

The article briefly mentions it. Apparently the Union used the name and shirt for their academy team as a homage to the original team.

All of those teams were apparently just in the north east, from Philly to New York. Indiana Flooring was a New York team.

They've sent someone down to the club shop to get another one sorted out I expect.
They are just ironing his name on it now

And surprisingly, they don't have a spare with his number on it. Somebody may be hard at work ironing on the new number even as we watch.

What a save by Pickford.
Offside would have negated it any way.
But still, what a save.

Coins and a bottle thrown from the Everton fans at the Villa players as they celebrated.

There's got to be a clamp down on this soon, it's happening at every game it seems now. And because nothing is happening, the yobs think it's acceptable behaviour.

There was a bbc piece yesterday about how arrests at matches are the highest they've been for years. Apparently a large part of the problem is cocaine related, the 'culture' has shifted to that from getting beered up.

We should start with a one game ban on away fans, and work up from there.

BTW, it's worse in France where they have had a couple of games abandoned.

I don't see what any Villa player did that would be considered taunting the fans.

2022-01-22 8:31:02 AM
It's a football-wide problem, i get that, but when you see fans of your team do that shiat, it makes you want to turn the game off.

2022-01-22 8:33:01 AM
Used to be you'd maybe get one or two incidents of it a season,

But I think it's happened so far in every EPL game I've watched in 2022.

Jon Champion seems to think players have a "responsibility" in knowing where they are celebrating and how it might inflame the fans.

No no, don't celebrate their.  Might hurt Angus' fee fees.  Celebrate OVER THERE.

It's an indefensible view from him.

What I think I can say about the game is that Andre Gomes, maybe due to injuries or maybe just a lack of quality, is not a Premier League midfielder at this point.

The police are in that corner area now trying to find and eject the perpetrators.

They'll likely need to stay there all half, Lucas Digne is playing in that area of the pitch this half.

Also a tannoy announcement saying 'we'll arrest your asses and ban you for life if we catch you doing that shiat'

I think they should go straight to docking points.
That'll stop them pretty sharpish

For Squires over at the guardian Watford are the gift that keeps on giving. He did a squid game parody cartoon when Claudio got the job, and after last night he tweeted a drawing of Ranieri rocking back and forth clutching his knees.

So far OGS and Rafa have been claimed.
