Pre-Internet things like this are now quaint curiosities, like the World's Largest Ball Of Twine or Texas.

It's wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. I would imagine the clock is going to stay there until the first missile flies or the first snukeinasnizz, and just before the internet is taken out completely, someone will update the clock to zero. And 2 real minutes later, it won't really matter anymore what time it is for us peasants.

There are plenty of places in the world that couldn't give a shiat about your freedom. Heck, just about all of them. I could ask why not just move to one of them but I'm just about certain the feelings of superiority are involved, which is nice.

I guess in my weird mind I never worried about it, because if we're already this close to doom, and apparently we've chosen to do this, even while we make our little charts and graphs about how we shouldn't, then it was a pointless argument anyway.  So yes--wibbly wobbly time stuff.

Well, stop breaking natural laws then!

Mostly bullshiat. It was at 7 minutes to midnight during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  And we're supposed to believe things appear worse now than in October and November 1962?

Sorry, just can't take it seriously.

If you look at it, it's been trending closer to Midnight pretty consistently since 1991, despite the fall of the Soviet Union and the *MAJOR* reduction of both immediately available warheads and total number of warheads, and the significant reduction in yields of modern warheads (mainly due to increased accuracy of delivery systems).

It's complete and utter politically motivated bullshiat that can and should be ignored.

Angels on the sideline
Puzzled and amused
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused
Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys
Where there's one you're bound to divide it
Right in two
Angels on the sideline,
Baffled and confused
Father blessed them all with reason,
And this is what they choose?
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over
Pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys
Give them thumbs, they forge a blade
And where there's one they're bound to divide it
Right in two
Right in two
Monkey killing, monkey killing monkey over
Pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys
Give them thumbs, they make a club
To beat their brother down
How they've survived so misguided is a mystery
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Fight till they die over sun, over sky
They fight till they die over sea, over air
They fight till they die over blood, over love
They fight till they die over words, polarizing
Angels on the sideline again
Benched along with patience and reason
Angels on the sideline again
Wondering where this tug of war will end
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Right in two
Right in two

"Populist" politicians pandering to bigots, bumpkins, morons, misogynists like Trump/GOP//Conservatives/BoJo/Duerte/Bolisario et al intent destroying democracy
L'i'l Kim with his nukes
Putin has his finger on the trigger too  - he wants to start a war to pander to the Russian morons.
Pandemic is getting worse, the medical community are playing whack-a-mole with the COVID19 variants, some politicians are making it worse rescinding mask mandates to get morons to vote for them
Greedy business types are fueling inflation
Global supply chains are breaking down.
..and to top everything off climate change is accelerating.

Things don't look good right now.

Okay, but I do gotta agree with Ditty here. We've 100% been much, much closer to wiping ourselves out in the past, given that during the cold war, pretty much the only reason we DIDN'T on a numberof occasions is the right person was in the right place.

shiat's bad. The longterm trajectory, also, frankly, looks bad. But we're also not 1 cloud reflection away from wiping out most of the biosphere in the span of a day.

I think now it is lower because places like North Korea getting nukes and terrorist groups trying to get them as well.

Some group of frustrated rigorous weirdoes is eventually going to get a hold of a nuke. Used at the right time and place it could precipitate a full blown nuclear Holocaust. Just as YouTubers can now make their own bronze age weapons without the benefit of belonging to an Assyrian empire, some fat Japanese will eventually get a nuke. Might not happen before we turn our atmosphere into Mercury with our SUVs.

I suspect that we'll  see small nukes, centralized nukes; the shiat you see on some sci-fi shows.

But not like, Threads or The Day After shiat.

I don't think any of the big players want an end-of-world thing to happen and I think the countries with nukes that are crazy enough (or not smart enough to imagine the consequences) would be taken out pretty quickly by the big guys.
