FTA:Sortwell admitted his bill would lead to more guns on school property, but believes it's a "common sense" measure to avoid people breaking the law.

Well, there's your problem, Sortwell does not know what common sense is.

Republicans passed legislation that would lower the concealed carry age from 21 to 18,
allow legal gun owners to have their weapon in their vehicle when dropping off or picking up their child from school,...

I'm guessing that second one is technically illegal in Wisconsin. I wonder how often it's actually enforced

...and allow anyone with a concealed carry license from any state to be armed in Wisconsin.

What about states that have eliminated their permit requirements in favor of "constitutional carry"?

I used to make the joke that there are so few school shootings in Los Angeles because everyone would pull out their own 9mm out of their lockers.

That joke isn't so funny anymore...

Yeah he does.  "Common sense" always means "stupidest, farking thing you can imagine".  People don't say that's what it means, but that's what it means.

That is...

That is the single, dumbest idea I have ever heard a majority of a group vote in favor of in at least the last 6 months. And yet somehow I'm certain that Republicans will find a way to top it with something even stupider.

The first time a school shooting happens where another student intervenes with their own gun against the shooter will be hailed as some sort of victory or validation of the entire notion of allowing guns on school property.  Or maybe that's already happened and I missed it.  There are enough school shootings in the news that any given one might slip by because they exit the news cycle within hours or days depending on the quantity of deaths.

Where are high schoolers being allowed to carry concealed on campus?

Half of our two-party system is a fascist death-cult, in which being the biggest asshole possible is the only way to rise through the ranks. The other half seems to prefer trying to work with the first half while taking potshots at "leftists" (ie 'people who would be in the center of the political spectrum in most other developed nations') over actually fighting the fascists.

Yeah, we're pretty farked.

Schools have parking lots and pickup lanes, all part of "campus"

Ya, while this certainly means more people will be on school property with guns (as they wait in the parking lot) it doesn't appear to actually involve student's guns with the exception of an 18 year old picking up a younger sibling.

No need to expand gun freedumbs in the first place, but it isn't quite was subby lead me to imagine.

Lower the age of legal consent to marry? Say to 15 for girls?
Bring back cigarette machines everywhere?
No proof of age needed to buy cigarettes?
Increase the DUI limit?
Machine guns for 17 year olds?
No abortions. Ever. Never. Ever. Or birth control.
Voting in person, only in the state capitol, on a Tuesday between 9am and 10am.
Reduce drinking age to 16?
Bigamy is not a problem.

And on and on.....those old white republicans are so friggin' dumb.
I hope the brain drain outta that neck of the woods (the smart professionals and creatives running away from the crazy) will further isolate 'em and they can go be manly men and enact the kind of laws that would make the Taliban proud. Lots 'n lots of laws, stupid, dumb, idiotic laws, that would make the most stringent HOA blush with pride. Which will drive even more people away and these old white republicans will have fewer and fewer people to police.
I'd sooner spend time where the motto is "Let the good times roll" than "We'll roll over you for having a good time".

We didn't bring them inside, but every truck in my HS parking lot had a gun rack.
Does this apply to black/Muslim students also, or would they be immediately shot?

"When applying for a concealed carry permit, state law doesn't require someone to actually fire a weapon."

Actually firing a weapon seemed to be a requirement for my class. But it only involved two magazines of .22LR from a rented gun.  PLINK PLINK. Here's your certificate. (Actually, I rented the gun instead of trying to find ammo, and the tiny bullets just made the target shooting easier.) That's probably as much as would be expected from a firing requirement, as the real test is in confirming that the person is handling the weapon safely enough to be allowed to fire it.

Reps Sortwell and Ramthun seems to be the lead crazies in the Assembly with Brantjen not far behind.  At least when people like Tommy Thompson and Scott Walker were in charge idiots like this were kept quiet but Boss Vos can't seem to get a handle on his people.

Republicans are looking to please their base this election year by introducing proposals like these, that are likely doomed for Governor Tony Evers' veto pen.

Well, I guess it's okay because they have a very good solid reason for doing it. Gotta get those votes somehow and this is the most pressing matter in the state right now.

Well, just imagine a high school where, if you don't do what some guy wants, he can conceal carry a gun to school every day afterward. Anmd even if he doesn't, he will be able to borrow some other kid's gun. The walks to and from school will become scary for everybody.
