"Since beginningless time I have always been free. Birth and death are only a door through which we go in and out. Birth and death are only a game of hide-and-seek. So smile to me and take my hand and wave good-bye. Tomorrow we shall meet again or even before. We shall always be meeting again at the true source. Always meeting again on the myriad paths of life."-The guy Martin Luther King Jr nominated for the Nobel Peace prize

"When you sit in a café, with a lot of music in the background and a lot of projects in your head, you're not really drinking your coffee or your tea. You're drinking your projects, you're drinking your worries. You are not real, and the coffee is not real either. Your coffee can only reveal itself to you as a reality when you go back to your self and produce your true presence, freeing yourself from the past, the future, and from your worries. When you are real, the tea also becomes real and the encounter between you and the tea is real. This is genuine tea drinking."

Actually... Buddhism is a spin-off of Hinduism.

Surak, on the other hand, could indeed be said to have created an "atheist religion."

Short, digestible quotes. No longer than a "page" per quote.

Eh, no. "This isn't right. It isn't even wrong."

Theology requires gods. It's right in the word "theos". If you have no gods, you have no religion. /queue Modern Love by David Bowie.

Some people have argued that Buddhism isn't a religion, because it has no gods. "The Buddha was just a teacher." Yes. No. In fact, Buddhism is divided into a vast number of different sects that believe different things. In some of them, Siddhartha is considered a god, so that's a religion. In others, he's not considered a god, so it's a religious-like philosophy. That's slightly more respectable, since it involves beliefs about behavior without depending on ineffable boogy-ghosts.

I suppose you could say the same in regards to Yeshua of Nazareth, "Jesus". He was only considered a god by a few oddball branches of Christianity until the Nicene Council got together to try to bring all the scattered branches of it back together. They made some odd compromises along the way, and probably most modern Christians have bought into the bizarre heresy that Christ was God all along.

This is seriously counterproductive in that Saul of Tarsus was trying to reimagine Yeshua as a sacrifice to God in atonement of the sins of humanity. Well, if Jesus was God all along, he couldn't die and he knew it, so it's not exactly a sacrifice... and why was God sacrificing himself to himself, anyway? But, the sin that doomed humanity to begin with was a couple of people eating a fruit so, you already knew the god was batshiat insane.

Siddhartha Gautama, the author of Buddhism if you will, specifically denied divinity and did not want worshippers.  You can read exactly what he had to say without any intermediators predigesting it for you.

Don't worry; I haven't found the energy to go to the gym since junior year of college. Think of me, and your exercise routine is always superior!
