They probably weren't using those honorary degrees anyway.

Now someone just needs to revoke their freedom from incarceration.

why would any university give either one of those chodes an honorary degree?

One has like a single positive day in his history and the neither has been anything but a POS.

So, from a different article:

Giuliani had received the Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa in 2003 for leading New York City in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.

In 2014, the university awarded Flynn - an alumnus of the university and a three-star Army general - the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Because the university can fundraise off the giving of the degree - or they are given because of slash in hopes of getting donations from the recipient.  The degrees do nothing, they are just worthless paper.  So, to the university it is the cost of printing off an extra diploma versus the ability to make extra cash.  As long as that estimated cash is more than the cost of toner, it is a net win for the university.  I assume in this case that a serious donor threatened to withhold money from the university if they were associating themselves with Twatwaffle 1 and Twatwaffle 2.  If the cash being held ransom was more than the expected fundraising off TW1 and TW2, then rescinding the degrees is a no-brainer.  Again, they confer no actual benefit, so it isn't like either Twatwaffle could sue for being denied due process

Giuliani? I can see in the fog of 9/11 that happening to secure a graduation speech or some nonsense.

Flynn? no farking clue.

Ask your institution for a copy of your diploma or transcripts...you are paying a fee even for a pdf to be sent by "official means".

Graduation Fees?  Congrats, you just paid $10k in tuition to earn this degree and you still have to pay extra at the end to the same college to confirm it.

At least they revoked them so it came into the public awareness they gave them out to begin with.

I can't wait until the US rescinds freedom for those two idiots.

I can totally believe Rudy's law degree was "honorary".

Oh no! Will they have to give up their alumni email addresses?

Okay, but what does that have to do with honorary degrees?  The recipient isn't going to bee paying transcript fees or graduation fees.

Honorably.

Okay. Next do the non-honorary ones.

Jordan Peterson also got fired from the University of Toronto recently, so it looks like academic institutions desperately divesting themselves from people who are kinda reinforcing the fact that many of them are basically supervillains in public policy terms is catching a bit.

// "Asked to resign" technically, I should clarify, since Peterson's fans seem to care a lot about those kinds of technicalities if all of them rolling with the "technically it's ephebophilia" crowd is any indication.

There must be a schitton of corrupt pols who've had degrees rescinded. The beloved Buddy Cianci comes to mind, although they probably wouldn't have rescinded anything they gave him.

Big deal.  Rhode Island's diplomas are only about the size of a business card.  Nobody will see that on your wall.

Finally, some actual tangible legal consequences for known criminals!

Shrug. Good.

What's the point of honorary degrees anyway? Is that the university's way of saying "Boy, I wish he'd attended here?" Do they think he'll crack open a checkbook and make a donation? Maybe it's more a "look at the cool people we hang out with" thing which makes sense when they drop you for getting into trouble.

Honestly, there are people who've volunteered at their church for 40+ years who are more deserving.

It's nice to know that a couple years after committing treason you'll get the least consequential punishment imaginable.

Lol. My uncle was president of a college that gave Cosby an honorary degree. His face was plastered on the website banner head for years. I would give that farking soulless shiatbag crap for it if I still spoke to his arrogant waspy ass.

You know what would solve these awkward Honorary Degrees that seem to be happening with increasing frequency?  Stop giving honorary degrees. Either someone does the work for a degree or they don't.
