The joke or the movie about cats?

With Bob Saget dead, this will end up as well as Rise of Skywalker after Carrie died.

They'll probably just make Gilbert Gottfried the Macguffin of the film.

I love the stories about comedians who flubbed their "The Aristocrats" punchline by saying Aristocats.

"NO!  CRATS, CRATS!!  F*CK!"

The movie Cats was the joke. The studio heads panicked at the last second and completely changed up the ending from Saget's original script.

I love the original Aristocats soundtrack. The Jungle Book was one of my absolute favorite movies as a kid, so I have a real soft spot for Phil Harris.

I'm not optimistic about a "live-action" re-make, but after Cats set the bar so low, I feel like it can't possibly be thatterrible.

A butthole cut would be pretty tame.

Unless the boy does it with a cavalry saber while delivering the dad's baby.

You think it would be difficult to find actors for the 'rolls' but it is Hollywood:

This joke almost always has these elements-alternative versions may change this form.
Setup: A family act (or a representative, usually the male head of household) goes in to see a talent agent about booking their act. The agent asks what their act consists of.

Act: If the whole family is present, the act is performed for the agent; otherwise it is described, in as much detail as the teller prefers, typically ad lib. Traditionally, the description is tasteless and ribald. The goal is to significantly transgress social norms. Taboo acts such as racism, animal cruelty, incest, rape, child sexual abuse, coprophilia, coprophagia, bestiality, necrophilia, cannibalism, and murder are common themes.

Punch line: The shocked (or intrigued) agent asks what the act is called, and the proud answer (sometimes delivered with a flourish) is: "The Aristocrats!" Some versions have the agent then asking, "So - Is that all ya' got?"

I'll watch this only if it stars bob Saget, Gilbert Godfried and George Carlin.

Phil Harris was the coolest guy on radio when he was with Jack Benny.

Phun PH Phax:  His full name was Wonga Phillip Harris.  Apparently, "Wonga" is a Cherokee word. Both his parents were circus folk

And yeah, having both Harris and Louis Prima in the Jungle Book was genius casting..

Some day I'm going to have to watch Cats with the audio description only. It sounds like someone explaining their nightmares:

So you're saying that it would be a faithful adaptation?

// I'm frankly surprised that this many people even seem to remember that movie exists; my childhood media consumption was Disney-dominated to the point that I can comment on farking Song of the South's plot and framing and remember the music pretty fondly, and even _I_ usually forget Aristocats was even a thing when discussing Disney movies.

That's that these "live action" versions are, basically cartoons. Just done by computers. Which I know, because I do them. And I'm not proud of it.

That was Lady and the Tramp.

The racist song from The Aristocats went like:

Oh boy, ferras. Ret's rock this joint!
Shanghai, Hong Kong, Egg Fu Yung! Hya ha ha!
Fortune cookie always wrong! Hya ha ha!
Now, dat a hot one! Hye he he!

The fact that that song isn't from Aristocats proves my point more than anything else, except for the fact that I need to point out that it's not from Aristocats for anyone to even know that.

Just sayin'.

// Also that one wasn't racist, the song is basically just "we're Siamese cats, so fark you, doggie".  Cats were hilariously dickish in Lady and the Tramp for obvious reasons.  It was removed from the D+ version from basically an abundance of caution.  Also, according to the lyrics, they were literally imported from Siam in addition to being of the breed in question, making the song also a pun.  And really dated since Siam stopped existing in 1932.

You know, I've always wondered if somewhere out there a careless parent/guardian had rented The Aristocrats instead of The Aristocats.

And how long before they realized their mistake.

There is NO replacing Phil Harris, but I do think that Sam Elliot would be a great choice to play the character. Family guy showed he could carry a tune, so if they want to have any songs, I think Sam could deliver...

"We are Siamese" isn't racist, it's orientalist.  And that's mostly in the music, not the lyrics.

Bill Murray did a good job as Baloo in Jungle Book.

Sidney Poitier starred in "Sneakers" with David Strathairn, who starred in "Eight Men Out" with John Cusak, who starred "Chi-Raq" with Jennifer Hudson, who starred in "Cats" with Ian McKellan, who starred in "Six Degrees of Separation" with Will Smith.

Great stuff.

Maybe it's a verrrrry long game Of revenge played by Disney ever since TRON was seen by the Academy for "cheating" with it's pioneering use of cgi.
