Enjoyable?

No. Try more sport event like with drunk assholes yelling at the screen. Its more reason to avoid the theaters

Partly this and also bathroom?

If I have a couple beers no way I'm not going to have to hit the head in the span of a couple hours.  Hate having to get up and miss part of the movie to go pee.

/Which is why I have a big tv and a surround sound setup.  My fridge has always had beer.

Eh, local places in my neck of the woods have been doing this for a while, that's really a non-issue.  Just avoid seeing any Marvell movies on release day and you'll also avoid the local party crowd.

Is sneaking in a couple beers in the GF's purse still a thing?

CSB
my first job was as an usher at the local theater, almost every night you'd inevitably get someone who snuck some beers in knock over an empty and hear it go clanking down the sloped floor

Look, if I want to spend $37.95 for a single beer I'll go to a sportsball arena.

Many of the McMenamin's properties in OR and WA have been doing this for some time.  And not just drinks, but food as well.

You can get alcohol and food at one of the theaters here in Saskatoon. There's been no problem with rowdy drunks. The ushers seem to like it - one told me he made $100 in tips one night, where ordinarily an usher at a movie theatre isn't going to get tips.

Weird, I would have thought this would have been a thing in NY for a while now.  Pretty much all of the theaters near us sell alcohol.  The price isn't too bad either, certainly less expensive than what you'd find at a stadium.

The local AMC converted to a Dine-In theater a few years back.  And while it sounds like a good idea in theory, in practice it's just kind of annoying.  There's a small light by your seat that never completely dims during the movie, and it's there so you can see the menu/food.  But I usually just throw the napkin over it to block it out.  And maybe it's just me but eating a meal while trying to watch a movie is just kind of annoying.  And of course there's the waitstaff that are frequently walking through to take/deliver orders.  They try their best to not be intrusive, but it's kind of unavoidable.  The worst is that they drop off the bill towards the end of the movie, which is almost always during the climax of it.  They really need to go to an app-based system where you can just order from your phone, which would cut down on some of the disruption.

Though it may just be the way AMC does it that's annoying because I know the dine-in versions of other theaters are usually talked about favorably.

But because I don't care for the full meal, I'll usually just opt to drive an additional 5 minutes down the road to the Regal.  It has a full bar, which I'll usually just get a tall beer at before the film starts and that'll be enough.  They have the good seats and bigger screens as well.

I still enjoy the theater, even though I have a really good home setup.

Yeah, because what we really need is loud morons to be drunk too.

Move to Malta. They still stop the movie for "intermission" because all of the smokers can't go 90 minutes without a fix.

I can have beer, wine, or any other drink I want in my home theatre.
