Please tell me that whole thing's loaded with chili powder, salt, and msg like the Julio's chips are...

Also, the ER seems a little...extreme? Assuming of course no allergies or sensitivities are involved. I dunno though--most people I know (myself included) with any real heat tolerance built it up over time.

Eating one of these chips just out of the blue would be kinda like going out to do some serious drinking with the average Farker when you're used to the occasional Bud Light.

The Hot Ones challenge continues to be an insanely popular YouTube series, often greenlit right here on Fark.  It certainly is a riddle how kids would ever get this idea.

Probably just corn, oil, and salt.  After making it, everybody who wanted some had some bites, then they broke it up & fed it to ducks.  7'x5', about 100 lbs ish.

Even chili-heads can have issues with something as hot as that chip.  Even with tolerance built up, it can still cause things like swelling throat.  But if you weren't a chili-head, that'll just make you wish you died.

Those Paqui chips are nuthin' to fark with...

2022-01-20 3:24:03 PM
Oh man.  I did this a couple months ago with my kid.  I tried to tell him not to, but...well.

It was awful.  I love spicy food.  I use habanero hot sauce on just about everything.  This chip was a farking nightmare.  For like an hour there was lava in my face.

I regularly eat paqui ghost pepper chips, they're actually quite tasty.  The one chip thing is just....it's bad.  Like really bad.

They use the same kind of sealing wax as Maker's Mark so it can really take a beating.  Probably smart from both a marketing standpoint and that it makes opening one of those an intentional act; no accidentally opening one of those.

Just saw he made a kit for making their sauce as hot as you want.  I'd also bet their chips are hotter than the Paqui one.  Damn you, now I have to go buying stuff.

Was mostly asking because I tried to zoom in on that pic and it looked like there was a red dusting of something on top.

Yeah, I saw the mid-season special thing where Sean and a guest each did one of those chips. He was NOT comfortable, which is fairly abnormal for him.

It's going to hurt on both ends of your journey, but a Paqui chip definitely won't put you in the hospital.

I love the flavor of habanero.  But one of my best friends when I was growing up was from Trinidad and I ate at his house a lot (because you can't go to a Trini house without having food thrown at you) so my idea of spicy is more in line with like Caribbean/Indian tastes.

/They grew scotch bonnets and put them in almost everything.

The spiciest thing I've ever encountered was the "Most Insane Hottest Burger Ever," from Back Alley Burger in La Grange, IL, when they existed.

Their menu is still up to remind me that great burgers doesn't mean good business sense.

1/2 beef, habanero jam, trinidad scorpion sauce, bhut jolokia flakes, fried jalapenos, red onion, Thai chili cream cheese, on cayenne spiced kaiser bun.

It tasted like eating shards of glass. I love hot food, but seriously, it tasted like eating glass.

Depends on how you react to capsaicin.  Know people it most certainly would.  Sometimes people find out the hard way when they push it

If your only foray into spicy is having a subtle dusting of black pepper on your mayonnaise sandwich then of course you're likely to have a problem with something that's 2M+ SHU.

farking dumbdumbs.

Barring an actual medical condition, like anaphylaxis or prolonged vomiting, eating something spicy that causes you discomfort isn't a reason to seek emergency medical attention.

-Your hiccups are a non-issue.
-Your lips, mouth, throat, ears, head burning are a natural consequence.
-Your stomach hurting is a given; capsaicin and Pop-Tarts/Pizza Pockets go to the same place.
-Discomfort in your intestines is likely to happen when the capsaicin makes its way there.  (This is really the only thing that annoys me when I don't prepare for it)
-Ring of fire/"My ass is aflame" the next morning.  Doesn't happen to me but I understand it.

The smartest thing for one of these goofs to do to not end 'end up in the hospital' would have been:

-Eat something beforehand so that you don't have an empty stomach.
-Down a cup of yogurt right before the challenge.
-Eat the chip.
-Down a cup of yogurt when the challenge time allows.
-TA DA! profit
I don't do challenges but if I was one of these dudebros and wanted to "not feel like I needed to go to the hospital" I would have done the aforementioned.People in competition are eating dozens of Carolina Reapers in a short time which are arguably as hot or hotter than this single chip and these boys failed.  I'd love to see someone's grandma that these kids know take that chip like a champ.
