The woman who refused to wear a mask was not arrested, however, she was put on American's internal no-fly list pending further investigation.

She should be forced to reimburse every passenger for their ticket, and the airline for the fuel.  Bankrupt these assholes.

Also, this is the biggest reason why I haven't taken a flight to go visit my son or mother...because of fucknuts like this woman.

I have enough anxiety dealing with airports.

I think they should have kept flying to the UK and had her arrested there.  Maybe then she would have faced worse punishment than losing her TSA precheck.

An entire planeload of people half a step away from beating your ass.
The flight crew should have left the plane once it landed for about 15 minutes. Lock the doors.
Then the cops can come to pick up what's left.

These chucklefarks keep spreading stories about how the whole airplane will clap if you stick to your guns. It turns out that they have a warped version of reality.

It takes two to tango. Most flight attendants ignore all the passengers wearing their mask on the chin. Gotta get the right combo of idiot passenger and flight attendant that's follows the rules exactly. Pretty rare.

And that's why they didn't announce to the entire plane who she was and why they were turning back.

Although they probably should have let nature take its course.

Passenger class action lawsuit:  sue her back into the stoneage.

This could all be stopped if a door was opened and the passenger was tossed out.

Might take a second time, but it would stop.

Of course, mask refuseniks are pretty much idiots, but what I don't get is, why didn't she wait until they were more than halfway there?  Causing a disruption an hour and a half into a transatlantic flight is just asking to have the plane turned around.  I'm sure you could've waited a few more hours, ensuring that you'd have actually arrived at your destination (though I bet customs would've turned her away for the refusal).

Yeah, you turn the whole plane around and disrupt everyone, there should be some charges pending. She could have been put on their "internal no-fly list" in London just as easily.

Pilot is the second biggest jackass here, but still dwarfed by the maskless Covidiot.

WTF?

Turning a trans-atlantic plane around just because one bint didn't want to wear a mask?

Tape a mask on her face, tape her to the chair, and keep going. The Brits can deny her entry and send her right back. On a cargo ship.

You will have to wear a mask or a parachute. Don't worry if you didn't bring a parachute. Other passengers will help you out the emergency door anyway.

The Bahamas are on the way, could've just dropped down for a quick stop.  Or, better yet, it is probably high time that airliners come equipped with a brig.  Nothing fancy, just a box down in cargo.  Put her in the brig.  Toss her an airline meal and a bucket.  Then everyone still gets to fly without their flight getting interrupted.  The woman then stays onboard, in the brig, until the plane makes the return flight back to Miami.  She gets credit for 1 night served in jail.

On the other hand, hurray for principle. On the other hand, in every flight I've been on during the pandemic, I've counted at least a half dozen people flouting the mask rule. They have the mask off, a flight attendant politely asks them to put it on, and they comply. Check in half an hour later and the mask is on the chin or at least well below the nose.

I don't get how she could even make it onto the plane, through the airport, if she's so anti masks.

Charge the biatch with interference with the flight crew.

Also, the airline should sue her for the cost of the fuel and any other expenses associated with having to turn around and make the unplanned landing at MIA.

International flights?

I can see pilots getting a message on a NOTAM or some company network that countries XYZ are tightening restrictions at customs & to be very careful about bringing potentially problematic passengers in.
I should note that if a passenger is refused entry at customs, but not arrested or detained, the airline is often on the hook for getting them back to their nation of origin.

So i can see a pilot facing a long expensive transatlantic flight with a pax he KNOWS isnt going to make it thru customs & makes the call..... or perhaps he just used it as an excuse to get his hours-of-duty reset layover to happen in Florida rather than London.... i can see that too.

I've posted before that the captain should be able to allowed to hand the controls over to the co-pilot, and then go in the back and slap a few people around.

I really am waiting for the day where that does happen (or a plane door being opened at 30,000 feet up) and all the passengers acting like mob witnesses and saying that they don't know what happened etc.

Meh, if they are not willing to arrest, I can't feel bad that they had to turn the plane around and inconvenience an entire planeload of humans..

This offense should be an arrest and 5 digit minimum fine.

Otherwise, it's just going to keep happening

Problem is, depending on the rules at arrival, everybody (including crew) might get taken into custody and quarantined or who knows what. I don't know what the Brit rules are right now but China would lock up everybody.

Due to people not giving a shiat about masks and vaccines, about an hour ago i called my sister-in-law to tell her I won't be getting on a plane to go to her husband's/my brother's funeral in February.  I am "at risk of severe illness" and it's just not worth getting sick, let alone the possibility of getting sick way out in Boulder and being confined to a hotel room for a week or two or whatever it is would be mandated.

Who said anything about shooting them?  But giving them a parachute isn't going to save them.  They'll just promptly drown if they are lucky enough to survive the high altitude skydiving.  Probably they would freeze or asphyxiate to death on the way down anyways because it's usually -70 at 35000 feet and there is not enough air to breathe and survive long.  So yeah, waste of a parachute.

When we asked police why the woman was not arrested, they told us mask mandate violations are not arrestable offenses.

That's funny, because every flight I take I am told not obeying a flight attendants demands ARE an arrestable offense. A federal offense even. Good thing she didn't tamper with the smoke detector in the lav. They really would have thrown the book at her.

For such a short diversion, I wonder if they had to dump fuel to return to Miami.  Landing heavy triggers all kinds of inspection criteria.  She should be billed for the cost of all that Jet-A.

"This is your captin speaking,  Thanks to Mr and Mrs Plague of 9764 Jeopardy Lane in Chicago not complying with regulations we are returning to Miami.  Have your lawyer sue them quickly because this airline will also be suing them for the $70,000 in dumped fuel and they will owe the FAA a $20,000 fine."
