I had the 2 Hip King of Vert video where Matt Hoffman landed the first backflip on a vert ramp, which he came down hard on, followed by the following year where he landed the first flair.  That was 32 years ago.  Watching this video, you understand why he had so many injuries.  He just never quit and he went big every time.

You know who else had pieces of flair?

Watching X Games type stuff isn't my thing but I respect the commitment those guys have. Just the right kind of crazy to pick themselves back up and do it again, especially after getting injured.

I'm not much on x- games type sports, but the 30 for 30 show on Hoffman (called "The Birth of Big Air") is one of the most entertaining sports docs you'll ever see.

Amen. It seems so farking obvious in hindsight, but I didn't realize right away that his biggest idol was Evel Knievel.

ugh, watching that one made me feel for his freaking wife and kids, watching him going through near death over and over again. I'm surprised he's both alive and walking.

Yeah that's true. I think part of what made the show enjoyable is Hoffman comes across as such a likable guy. It's hard to watch him break his body over and over

I damn near wore out the controller playing Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 twenty years ago.  I love this stuff.

The level of skill, and how the riders keep progressing never fails to amaze me.
