If said this for many years now. There should be like a two week time limit. If after 2 weeks you can't get 60 votes then majority vote ends debate.

You have more than enough time for debate. And the minority has the ability to slow down a bill but not stop it.

What's the point? He knows what he's saying is a lie. The reason he made that big WVU colored sign is so his constituents will go, 'Oh! That makes sense.' Then they will start telling each other and he'll seem like the sensible one.

But only very rare bills are written by elected officials or their office staff. Model legislation is long, complicated, and comes from lobbyists who try to get it passed everywhere. A two week limit would prevent everyone from reading it. Well...Unless you mean denate can't start for 30 days (or whatever period), then there are only 2 weeks of debate. The USA already has a terribly low number of Critters and Sens who read what they vote on. Limiting it further would do more to impede the readers like Warren and Sanders than it would to encourage reading by everyone else.

It has been said that more than a majority ought to have been required for a quorum; and in particular cases, if not in all, more than a majority of a quorum for a decision. ... In all cases where justice or the general good might require new laws to be passed, or active measures to be pursued, the fundamental principle of free government would be reversed. It would be no longer the majority that would rule: the power would be transferred to the minority. Were the defensive privilege limited to particular cases, an interested minority might take advantage of it to screen themselves from equitable sacrifices to the general weal, or, in particular emergencies, to extort unreasonable indulgences.

Once you teach Manchin to read start with American history and have him check out a little document called the constitution.

The founders intended the senate to hold an even number of senators and that legislation pass by simple majority.  That's why they built one of the only constitutional roles of the VP as a tiebreaker.

They put carve-outs for supermajorities for treaties, impeachment, etc. but never intended the situation we're in now where supermajorities are required for all legislation.  Only in very special circumstances that they defined.

The idea that the founders would build a government in which the minority without any effort could veto everything the majority  was elected to enact is fundamentally insane.

The DSCC and DCCC have long protected politicians like him against progressives during the primaries.

Is the BBB the ONLY thing West Virginians are progressive on?

It isn't the only thing, and that's what then-Senator Obama was trying to tell people back in 2008, before the party leadership went apeshiat at him.

"But -- so the questions you're most likely to get about me, 'Well, what is this guy going to do for me? What's the concrete thing?' What they wanna hear is -- so, we'll give you talking points about what we're proposing -- close tax loopholes, roll back, you know, the tax cuts for the top 1 percent. Obama's gonna give tax breaks to middle-class folks and we're gonna provide health care for every American. So we'll go down a series of talking points.

But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there's not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Um, now these are in some communities, you know. I think what you'll find is, is that people of every background -- there are gonna be a mix of people, you can go in the toughest neighborhoods, you know working-class lunch-pail folks, you'll find Obama enthusiasts. And you can go into places where you think I'd be very strong and people will just be skeptical. The important thing is that you show up and you're doing what you're doing."

Maybe cite a poll that's not a Left Wing think tank and that does survey more than 440 people.

Personally, I have never seen a west virginian that did not have a drool bucket. Where does manchin hide his?

Actually, I'm kind of surprised that they still have people from that area that look roughly human. All that cross breeding with sheep, goats and vermin creates some odd hybrids.
