A man gave a kidney to his girlfriend's mum... But giving up a kidney for his mother-in-law

She's not your MIL, until you are married.  If you want to give up an organ that's very altruistic, but you aren't related, and you should think of it as the same as donating it to a stranger.

We're just hearing it from his perspective.  For all we know this guy is the ultimate 'nice guy' incel type whom the woman was barely aware of, they weren't actually dating and the final straw was this stalker leaving a very bloody package on her door step one morning.

I understand what you are saying, completely. But our opinions on the matter are decidedly dated. Young people nowadays don't really bother with this marriage thing, and go around telling people that they are married or not simply as a matter of convenience. And since it is becoming more or less illegal to ask about marriage status or sexual preference or living arrangements for nearly any reason, a girlfriend's mom is pretty much a mother in law to "most people" these days.

This guy is aggrieved, so he wants to have it both ways. She owes him all the devotion and obligation of a mother in law. But he wants sympathy from the wider public, so he wants to make it sound like theft by a stranger. Or something.

Somebody should have really discouraged this younger person from giving up a kidney so some old lady could sit on a sofa a few more years. There. I said it. I do believe that there is counseling and supervision to prevent this kind of thing from happening. And the lady is very selfish to have done this, knowing all parties involved as she did.

This is a really interesting spin on organ harvesting as an urban legend. The dehumanization of POC is already driving a real organ market in some places. There is also a need for people in poverty to shack up with someone because of finances, and those financial concerns probably went into this guy's decision about what was fair for him to give based on what the financial dynamic in their relationship.

So much for common law relationships. It's good enough for tax purposes but not for claiming they owe him for his organ? How does that work?

But how do you find the people to harvest organs from?

Was the girlfriend a nurse, or did she work in a blood bank?

Or was this a random lucky match up and just a case of 'I decided I wanted out months ago, and was just waiting for the right time to break up with you?'

"Doesn't matter, had sex."

For real, dude, you don't really need the second anyway. You saved a life, be happy.

Well, at least it didn't involve a bathtub and ice. Which is nice.

Donating a kidney ruined bowling for me. But it does give me rockstar status whenever I go to the hospital.

I think it works something along the lines of this: if you donate a kidney, any healthy human kidney, we'll let you have one from our available kidneys that matches you best. Your donated kidney goes into the pool of available kidneys to replace the one you received and it will go to someone else it matches with. Or something like that. But I could be wrong.

The "Daily Star" I guess that means kidney donations and girlfriend's mother's don't exist.

Kidney anniversary is on the 28th. Jan 28, 97" I think. When I forget I count the scars on my liver.

They also take an adrenal gland. Really mellows you out...

I bet there's a GoFundMe for this guy somewhere when you dig deeper too.
