I heard there are more younger refs this season and they're still figuring out how to manage the game.

so what was it, 2v2 plus a goalie away from the scrum?

why would the refs blow the whistle?  I didn't actually see a penalty.

I've been told here on Fark that NFL refing woes are due to not having full time refs. If only hockey would have listened to such sage advice maybe they could avoid stuff like this.

Shhhhhhh.  It's the only way we can score, dammit.

The movement of the puck wasn't impeded, and there were no penalties, and no fights going on in the pile up. What reason was there to stop play?

The pan past the Sentors was funny.

I don't know the official rules on the matter, but I don't think you often see an official trying to break things up without a whistle.  It was definitely odd.

It was a linesman breaking things up and restoring the peace. The refs wanted to keep the flow in the game!

The official in there was a linesman, who can only stop play for a limited number of things:

offsides
icing
puck out of play
too many men / illegal substitution
net dislodged
...

Yes, but either the linesman was out of line for trying to break it up while the puck was still in play, or the referee exercised poor judgment by not stopping play if the lineman thought breaking up a fight was warranted.
