How would a fake cryptocurrency differ from a "real" one

2022-01-19 1:18:54 PM
"Last month, Steve Bannon, the former Trump campaign manager and White House strategist, announced his participation in a new venture: a cryptocurrency marketed to Joe Biden haters and Donald Trump devotees."

Oh man, this sounds like such a great future-proof investment that is really something you should hold onto for like 10 years, because everyone mentioned in the sentence I quoted above will for sure still be alive and relevant then.

Hey--it's backed by flop sweat and bourbon shiats. As long as Bannon's ticker keeps ticking that venture will remain liquid.

Picking your own pocket for a man who hates you and encourages you to be your worst self so he can pool that money into buying his way out of punishment for crimes he commits does, in fact, trigger the libs.

You know, I was just thinking about rolling my aggressive managed account portfolio into something a little more conservative in such uncertain economic times. This sounds like just the investment opportunity I was looking for.

Not proud of it, but have to admit to being impressed by the relentlessness of the grift. I wish I was as passionate about anything as these people are about fleecing their marks.

Real cryptocurrencies are powered by blockchain. Steve Bannon's is on crockchain.

Depending on your definition of "fake" or "cryptocurrency", the FJB token is real.  It exists.

It's being passed on Discord via the Tip.cc bot:

Balance
cdn.discordapp.com 4.734975635 FJB (≈ $0.01)

See?  I have 4.73, or 1 penny worth.

Considering there are a couple of Discord bots that allow you to convert currencies, including this one, to other more usable currencies, I would say that this, in fact, is not a fake.

Unless this is completely NOT the same thing as TFA is discussing.  But, as you can probably tell, I didn't RTFA.  I just wanted to sound like a know-it-all first.

I'm with you. Fatties are gross.  It's why that piece of sh*t Pompeo lost all that weight. He still has no chance but he really had no chance as a fatty.

That would be NFTs which have the advantage of being a scam from the beginning.

Crypto is here to stay. Nothing this capable of separating rubes from their coin and facilitating money laundering and the use of black budgets will ever be done away with.

Bannon is a nihilist who enjoys stirring the pot. His viciousness and Trump's viciousness are mirror images differing only in the fact that Trump began the game with more money.

This is the biggest obvious grift of all. A crypto currency that the operators can prevent buyers from selling. I guess we'll find out precisely how stupid the MAGA nation is.

"Experts warn" literally has no meaning anymore. Stop using it as a headline scare tactic.

It's crypto.

It's Bannon.

We don't need "experts" "warning" us. A fool and his money yada yada.

I see the logic and I don't marvel at the expected windfall, I just wonder how far it is going to get them from the burning building that is left and if they'll save any of it to protect themselves from those seeking retribution.

In this case, this:

'The code for $FJB allows the currency's operators to manually lock an owner's token balance, an unusual practice in a space that aims to avoid centralized authority. This would prevent an owner from selling coins..."there is a lock that can arbitrarily be placed on almost any address," with the only exception being the $FJB operators' address....$FJB's operators can manually pick and choose whose wallets to lock.'

The guy quoted in the article calls it "bad code"  (like poorly written), but that's  being too generous.  I mean, it's Steve Bannon.  There's like a 99.99999999999999998% chance he required his developer to make it so that he could arbitrarily do whatever, whenever.  So this is less a cryptocurrency and more a Steve Bannon Gift Certificate for Nothing, from which Bannon will straight transfer out any assets he owns at any time.  It's like a baked-in pump and dump.  I could just see him watching the price rise, locking all others' sell orders except his own, drain his account back into dollars, and then walk away.

I'm not convinced when one of the three major powers treats it as a criminal enterprise to mine or trade in it. Seems like what they want they eventually get, so...

In this case, it has a feature that lets the operators of the currency freeze people trying to sell it - or more precisely, freeze certain people from selling it, while others could continue to do so.  And at the whim of the operators.  In theory, an automated feature that froze everyone if certain conditions were met might be useful to avoid depreciatory spirals during a panic.  But this is pick-and-choose at the whim of a small number of participants.  So, the theoretical stoppage would work like how Wall Street can halt trading if the market takes too big of a nosedive too quickly.  And that isn't really a bad thing, since it is a blanket ban.  This is more like Wall Street deciding certain people can continue to trade while others are blocked - and not just during a panic, but at any time it wanted.  But everyone would be bound by the results of those trades when they were unbanned, ie your investment loses money and you can't get out, but the other guy can profit off you being frozen out, and you are left holding bupkis.  So, it is Wall Street if insider trading wasn't just tolerated but was the central purpose of the market.

NASCAR , the org that used to hawk mostly cigarettes and beer to their family-heavy demo, decided this was too sleazy

This is totally a legit cryptocurrency project and not a quick pump and dump scam to enrich Bannon and his accomplices.
