Alcohol is alcohol

Wrong! Ethanol, methanol, propanol, butanol, and amyl alcohol are all very different types of alcohol that show up at different times in the distilling process based on their boiling points. Ethanol is the good stuff. The other alcohols will fark your shiat up at high concentrations. Cheaply distilled spirits are more likely to contain undesirable alcohols and chemical compounds that contribute to hangovers. This is why drinking a quality triple distilled vodka is less likely to ruin your day than doing shots of Mr. Boston tequila.

This author fails at basic science and should feel bad.

Beer before liquor, never been sicker: FALSE
"The bottom line is, alcohol is alcohol, whether it's in beer or wine or spirit or any other brand-alcohol is alcohol," Edirisinghe says. For the most part, the order in which you consume drinks will have no effect on your puke factor that night or even the hangover the next day.

I never thought it was about the order of drinks, I thought it was you're likely to drink more after starting to feel a buzz and having more liquor instead of more beers toward the end of the night when you're indifferent to what's in your hand is deadly.

That's pretty clear. For example:
Breaking the seal: SORT OF TRUE
When alcohol hits your liver it's either going to be metabolized into that aforementioned energy/fat or water. There's not so much a question of if breaking the seal is a real thing but rather a concrete statement that if you are drinking the seal will break and the more you drink, the more you'll have to keep peeing.

That doesn't address the myth, which is that you can hold in more urine until you've peed once, at which point you'll have to pee frequently. No one questions that the more you drink, the more you pee. It's all about when.

Many of the writer's "answers" ignore the myth he's allegedly addressing.

Just listen to your mom, and drink as much water as you can the day after a wild night of knocking them back.

No, actually, if you prepare ahead of time, and have hydrated beforehand, it works amazingly well. I mean, drink a bunch of water before, eat at the beginning, and maybe even drink a glass with your first beer or two. Not only will you feel normal the next day, but you end up getting pretty sideways without getting sideways. You end up with this totally different buzz, no blackouts, and are a lot more in control.

Yes, I discovered this in my 20s, when working at restaurants, and drinking like a fish with everybody as soon as we would get off work.

As far as next day cures, my go-to has always been to get up, chug a V-8 (Hot and Spicy is my favorite),, take a shower, and then go back to sleep for an hour. Works wonders for me, YMMV.

The physical hangover is a cakewalk compared to the mental hangover, and there seems to be no cure for that besides not getting drunk.

A good greasy bacon cheeseburger and a bloody mary, and I'm right as rain.
Mind you, that also helps most ailments.

Yeah, my understanding was also that if your stomach is full (of beer or otherwise,) then liquor won't hit you quite as fast as it would on an empty stomach, so it's easier to underestimate how much you've had until it's too late.

Also, WTF is this:

----
Certain drinks cause worse hangovers than others: FALSE
Again, alcohol is alcohol. No combination of drinks or type of drink in itself causes a worse hangover-it's all about the amount you drink. That being said, sometimes additives like sugar can change how the alcohol is being processed. "When your drink contains a lot of sugar, one thing that can happen is that the sugar takes over the metabolism," Edirisinghe says. "The alcohol is directly going to the fat metabolism."
----

"Alcohol is alcohol, all hangovers are the same, except that the additives, electrolytes, and water content of what you drink can impact how you feel afterwards."

It's like he didn't read what he wrote.

Yep. And sugars are added when the alcohol is made, low quality sugars added to the brewing or distilling process can cause these exact headaches. So yeah, the different alcohols CAN matter. I noticed the same thing you did.

I am not a lush nor a lightweight (fark standards notwithstanding).  The raging headache I am sure to have after having two peaty scotchs in an evening beg to differ with the author's assessment.

Best hangover procedure is to drink moonshine from somebody you trust or made yourself. Gotten wrecked on some very pure shine in which i helped do the run, with zero aftereffects the next day.

The best hangover cure is cannabis. The toughest part is smoking the morning after when you are that hung over. But once you get a few bong hits in you, eating some food and keeping it down is easier

I can't speak for anyone else, but if I'm wasted and drink 2 liters of water before passing out, there's a 90% chance I'm gonna piss the bed. Hydrating will certainly mitigate an impending hangover, just be careful out there kids.

TIL Mr Boston makes tequila.  I never used them for anything other than weird flavored stuff like creme de menthe or apricot brandy.  Sounds dreadful.
