SNOWFLAKE, AZ (AP) - A man in the town of Snowflake is in FBI custody after a live grenade was found in his RV. The Navajo County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest Tuesday of the 61-year-old man.
According to sheriff's officials, they received a call Jan. 2 about a possible explosive device at the man's home. They spoke to the man, who admitted to possessing a live grenade. He then threatened to make another one if they seized it.
Sheriff's deputies returned the next day with a search warrant. They found the grenade, which was properly disposed by state Department of Public Safety bomb technicians.
A federal arrest warrant was issued for the man Thursday. He surrendered to the FBI without incident.

Maybe he was having trouble understanding the directions.

Cop: "Now, on my count, calmly put it down on that table. Three will be number of the counting, and the number of the counting will be three. Five is RIGHT OUT."

I know Germany has strict gun control laws, but they won't even let you look at a picture of a grenade?

That's a pipe bomb made out of practice 'noisemaker'.  The real grenades you are likely to see these days are Yugo M-75's in Sweden.

That's not a grenade. Grenades have spring actuated blasting caps on a time delay fuze with (usually) a stable plastic explosive.

What he has is basically a pipe bomb.

What a waste of cannon fuse.

Filled with powder he would be lucky to blow a hinge off his toilet seat with that joke.

Modern grenades do. When the term was coined, this is pretty much exactly what they looked like.

nope. nothing of the sort.

its like recovering alcoholics and pictures of booze. they're afraid they'll get a look at such things, it'll awaken some deep evil living in the black heart of every living german, and BOOM! next thing they know, they'll be in Poland. And noone wants that again.

what did he expect to happen by saying that?

Far too long to be an effective weapon and best guess is not nearly enough. Grenades have liquified explosives poured into them and hardened. Black / gunpowder burns way too slow to explode a cast grenade casing like that efficiently. and with a cannon fuse that long you could casually walk away from it while discussing which coffee you liked best.

Is it as effective as RDX? Of course not.

Will it kill or seriously maim someone? Absolutely.

Y'all act like it's basically a firecracker, but it's basically a smaller version of the Boston Marathon bomb.

It's more likely that the website blocks visitors from the EU because they don't want to bother with GDPR compliance.

Yup.
At least it doesn't say "Our European visitors are important to us, and we're working on blah blah" which some sites have been showing since GDPR started. Not as important as siphoning all the personal data you can get your dirty hands on, it seems.

Even the pictured grenade is 2nd gen - the first grenadiers used what amounted to clay pots packed with gunpowder and a fuse.  The iron casing was a later development, came in when cast iron became fairly cheap and easy.  We've got record of grenadiers using the clay models all the way back to the Byzantine era in Europe, and back to fark knows when in China.

I spent a while trying to find an image, I can't remember if it was a woodcut or maybe embossed on something, of a Napoleonic grenadier with a wooden leg.

Definitely not the safest of professions.

A lot of websites reacted to the European data protection laws by deciding to block relevant IPs rather than comply.  It's not about the article itself.

This.  It's a pipe bomb in a grenade casing.

this is also the origin of modern "Drill".

Firing old matchlock muskets was something like 40 distinct steps, and the musketeers had to do them more or less at the same time less someoene's lit match contacted someone's open powder resulting in boom. Over the centuries this simplified with technology improvements and now just boiled down to "ready aim fire".

Or someone's barrel encountered someone else's face or whatnot.  Less boom, still a major problem.  Same purpose as pike drill, just with added risk of boom.  You can't get a bunch of people in close ranks with long objects they have to move about and expect anything but human dominoes without a good bit of training
