I still can't believe they let Ellen host Chardee McDennis. I bet her flag was just a screaming maniac stomping an assistant while putting out a cigar on a disabled person.

Well now what am I supposed to avoid watching on airplanes?

Elen seems to be a vile turd of a person.

It's time for Ellen DeGeneres to simply fade into oblivion.

Good. She's a very mean human being.

That game show seemed pretty sadistic and designed to amuse her.

That was a lousy game show.  It was mostly about celebrity worship.  The worst part is how cheap it was.  They has one winner per episode who averaged about $5,000. This was an hour long show in primetime.  Price is Right gives out about $100,000 every day and it airs before noon.

The last time I watched something on an airplane it was this and it made me laugh so hard I was crying.

And it was an hour long and like 4 games total. It was tedious, the one I watched.

Ellen's favorite game was "SCRATCH OUT YOUR EYES!"   In which if you angered her she could SCRATCH OUT YOUR EYES!

Good times!

The networks figured out how to ruin game shows with Millionaire.  It's more about the tension than the game itself.  The Press Your Luck reboot was the worst for that.

/Leslie Jones has done a solid job with Supermarket Sweep, though

That is just not true at all.

Very few people ever won less than 10k.  That would require INCREDIBLE incompetence at the last game, which is not very hard at all.  For example, the first season had 8 episodes... 5 won the 100k and 1 won 75k.

Price is right usually gives out about 50k unless literally everyone wins and there's a double showcase winner, in which case it's around 100-150k.  If like... one or two people win and both people overbid on the showcase, they might only give out a couple thousand.  It can vary very wildly.

/GoG's just likes giving all its winnings (except make it rain, which is 10k just for that game) to the winner rather than allowing every contestant to win something.  I'm going to guess they do give some sort of winnings to everyone else too if they win their game, they just don't make that known.  American Ninja Warrior for example gives a bonus to people who finish a course (10k I think?), they just don't make that known on the show.

I think that show was awful, and I can tolerate Wipeout (once the contestants get past the punching wall).

I haven't watched the show, but I love the opening credits where she's pushing the shopping cart.  She just seems so happy.

I was on a flight back in 2019 and was watching an episode of It's Always Sunny.  When I saw this, I almost died of laughter:

My wife who was sitting next to me was elbowing me to get me to be quieter and the person across the aisle gave me a weird look.

The British Wipeout is so amazing.  They give you one sentence about each contestant and get right to the ragdoll physics, which they know is what everyone wants.

Only saw parts of episodes a couple years ago so forgive the question...

Were the games still designed to shoot goop in the faces of women contestants?

I think there's a benefit to having cheap prizes because it keeps the stakes light. I'd just feel bad for someone who lost a $100k prize and then got launched into a pie or something.

Can't stand that show.  Get rid of the announcers, they are poorly attempting to recreate MXC (Takeshi's Castle)

/Ken was wrong this time.

John Cena is a such a waste of human flesh and oxygen. The show is impossible to watch.

That's Ellen for you.  She's the female version of Dan Patrick, just with slightly different celebrities being worshipped daily

The games could have worked as organizational team-building exercises... and the endgame "plummet of elimination" would be a welcome addition to any theme park funhouse.

Great description! I think the lady has to play dumber than she really is to try to make him look wittier and it's just downright painful.

They'll probably just replace it with another season of the very similar (and I believe still Ellen produced) show with Kristen Bell and Dax Sheppard, which is almost as bad, but skates a bit on the cruelty angle, because Bell and Sheppard participate and receive the same consequences as the contestants.
