I cannot criticize someone doing this when we'd looked into if Irish citizenship was an option for our daughter based on her maternal grandfather's lineage.

/it unfortunately wasn't
//he would have had to have applied-for Irish citizenship and received it before his granddaughter was born
///and that's assuming that he was willing to do so in the first place

I've looked up and confirmed that I can apply for and get Italian citizenship. It's cool to have that option.

The process, known as birthright citizenship, has largely been a backdoor for immigration for decades

Fark right off with that shiat.  Decades?  It's been 153+ years.  Backdoor?  It's the 14th amendment you cock-weasels.

If this works for them, they may be one of the few people in the world who can claim Brawley, Ca was good for something.

What am I supposed to be outraged about?

Sometimes I wish I could have been born while my mom was abroad.  These days it's nice to have options.

Why didn't they want the kid born in Mexico?  And why the US?  Don't they know the history of discrimnation and terror the US has?

The US has a better infant mortality rate than Mexico. Surely pro-life conservatives will embrace this woman's actions that helped protect the life of her child.

The Hispanics only predate the gringos in that part of the country by a couple hundred years. If they can their kid US citizenship with a well-timed visit they should go for it. Viva California.

Yeah. It's much harder to give birth when your mom is adude.

Do we need more kids of rich politicians?  How well did that work out in CA.  We might get more kids like Fabian Nunez's son.

And? She wants her children to have as many options and opportunities as possible, like every parent who isn't an ass. That option was on the table for her, so she took it. Big woop.

They were probably here on vacation but couldn't get back in time because of Trump's big, beautiful wall that Mexico totally paid for.

The kid was born in 2016.  Trump was sworn in in 2017.  So it was Obama's wall.

Cute lady.

I'd run on her border.

I'm the only non dual citizen in my household.  I'm stereotypically lazy.  Where is the outrage here?

It's kind of a pain in the ass to establish Mexican citizenship if you are born abroad.  Plenty of fixers to take your money though.

It's not a "loophole", it is well known and settled law. I can see why Mexicans might not like it, but the American response to this should be bienvenidos.

A lot more than that also have universal healthcare and access to abortions, if you'd like to start emulating the masses.

That's different. A family connection is different than you going to Ireland for the birth, just so the kid would have Irish citizenship. It's worse, since she's a government rep. If it's really that bad, she should be FIXING the problem, not ignoring it. I can see the criticism.

But I'm not gonna dwell, like a TrumpHumper would. I think it's dumb, but not the worst thing a politician has ever done. Now we move on...

You know exactly what they mean:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/01/31/us/anchor-baby-birth-tourism.amp.html

153 years ago (any special significance to 1869?) women weren't hopping on boats at 6 months so they could have a half-American baby and then return home.  Not a thing.

It's weird how this never seems to be a topic that comes up when the topic is Eastern European immigrants living in Queens.
